Barry Newman Obituary
Barry Newman, 94. of Hollywood, FL passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 21, 2018. Born in Warsaw, Poland he survived the Holocaust and emigrated to the United States after the war. He resided in Queens, NY and later moved to Mahwah, NJ in 1975. Barry owned and operated the Five & Ten store in Waldwick, NJ for eleven years. When he retired, he spent many winters in Florida and permanently moved to Hollywood, FL in 2006. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Viviane Newman, his cherished children Gary Newman and wife Sari of Woodcliff Lake, NJ and Sandra Levitt and husband Felix of Roswell, GA, and adoring grandchildren Alyssa, Jack, Jolie, and Rachel. Barry was the lone Holocaust survivor of his large family, yet he had a gift for enjoying and living life to the fullest. With his positive outlook, sense of humor, compassion, and warmth he touched the hearts of many. A funeral service will be held at one p.m. on Thursday, August 23 at Robert Schoem's Menorah Chapel, Paramus, NJ followed by burial at Beth El Cemetery in Paramus, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC.
