GLOUCESTER — Barry R. Roush, 55, of The Heights at Cape Ann, died peacefully Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009, at his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Brenda M. (Lord) Roush.
Born in Cleveland on July 26, 1953, he was the son of Ann (Eden) Compton of Columbus, Ohio and the late Carl B. Roush. He had resided in Gloucester since 1985. He graduated from Westlan High School in Columbus, Ohio and attended the Ohio State University in which he was an avid Buckeye fan.
He worked for the Beauport Ambulance Company as a 911 dispatcher for several years. From 2000 to 2003 he had also owned and operated the Land of Oz Racing Stable in Plainfield. He coached and enjoyed youth hockey. He was President of the Cape Ann Youth Hockey league. His team in the Spring Hockey League enjoyed several undefeated seasons. Barry was also very active in the Metro Hockey League for several years.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two daughters, Kristina Lane of Gloucester and Kelly Ann Roush of Danvers, three sons, Shane Roush of Gloucester, Jon Roush of Brooklyn NY and Travis Lane of Gloucester, several aunts and uncles, cousins, many dear friends and his beloved dogs, especially "Draco". He is also predeceased by his step father James L. Compton.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held on Sunday afternoon in the Pike- Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester at 4:30 p.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
