Basil RAMADAN Obituary

Published by Regina Leader-Post on Aug. 8, 2015.
RAMADAN, Basil
Basil passed away on Monday, August 3, 2015 at the Grace Hospice. He was predeceased by his parents Jane and Dr. Mostafa Ramadan; and brother Ramzi Ramadan of Cairo. Basil will be deeply missed and cherished by his loving family: his wife Glenda; sons Adam (Breanne) and Peter (Chrissy) in Regina; brother Farouk Ramadan (Miassa, Karim, Besma, Omar, Nadar, Deena); sister-in-law Lilian (Adham, Mayar) in Cairo; and brother Sam Ramadan (Darlene, Alex, Andrew, Makenzie) in Calgary. Basil was born in Cairo, Egypt. He excelled in his studies at St. George's school in Heliopolis and graduated from Engineering at Cairo University. He travelled to Edinburgh, Scotland, then immigrated to Canada in 1967 and arrived in Winnipeg, Manitoba to begin working at the University of Manitoba. He moved to Regina in 1968 and worked at the University of Regina as an electronics engineer for 30 years until his retirement. Basil and Glenda began working with stained glass in 1977 as a hobby, an interest which quickly became Friars Stained Glass. He enjoyed the challenge of working with glass and creating unique works of art. He taught countless numbers of students the joys of working with glass. Basil will be deeply missed by all that knew him. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to sign the online obituary and tributes page at www.regina-memorial.ca. Just found out, with great sadness, about Basil passing away. He was a good school friend of mine for a number of years at St George's College in Cairo, until we lost touch with each other when my family came to UK in 1956. Sincere condolences, albeit belated, to his family. Philip Esposito.

Dear Glenda, Adam, Peter, Sammy:
We are very sorry to hear of Basil's passing. During our many years at the U of R Basil was always held in the highest regard both as a friend and as a colleague. No problem ever seemed too daunting for Basil to solve using his ingenuity and competence. He was a fine human being and we will miss him.

I was very sorry to hear of Basil's passing. I have many fond memories of Basil from the thirty years we were together at the U of Regina. Basil was an excellent engineer and could solve any problem we brought to him, but, more than that, he was just a great human being and I always enjoyed my many interactions with him. I greatly valued his opinions during the many times we got together to "solve the world's problems". I will always carry with me the fondest memories of Basil. I consider myself fortunate to have known him.

We were students of Basil at his stained glass studio. He was always such a kind, patient, knowledgeable man. So sorry for your loss Glenda and Peter. Susan, Shawna, and Doug.

In my short span 2/3 years during 1970-73 as a graduate student in physics, I remember Basil as a good human being, an excellent friend & a helpful person. Accidentally his name came to my mind this morning after 43 years and began to search him in google when I found this sad news. May God bless his soul. Like to be in touch with his younger brother.
