Benedict Griep

GRIEP, Benedict (Benny) 1921 - 2005 Benedict Vincent Griep was born at Dodsland, Saskatchewan on December 20, 1921. His parents Johan Joseph and Agnes Gertrude Griep now deceased later moved to Peace River county in Alberta. Benny as he is known by many passed away at Oakville, Ontario on December 7, 2005. He comes from a very large family and leaves behind his dearly loved spouse Marjorie Japul Griep, son Kenneth, stepdaughter Suzanne, one surviving brother and three sisters and their respective spouses, four grandchildren, one great grandson, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Glenn. Benny has many noticeable accomplishments in his lifetime which included a Lancaster Fighter Pilot in the RCAF completing numerous missions over Europe during the Second World War; owned and operated three funeral homes in Peace Country, Alberta; he performed autopsies as a coroner; operated an air and ground transport ambulance service in the region and far north moving critically ill patients to Edmonton and Calgary; was a major real estate developer in Peace River and Fort McMurray, Alberta; and loved his civic duty by being the political campaign manager for Jed Baldwin, MP and Speaker of the House of Commons in Ottawa. He has been known to have assisted and mentored many successful entrepreneurs in Alberta. He was also the creator and principal proprietor of the Peace Valley Inn, Peace River, Alberta. He believed in hard work, determination and was a true entrepreneur. Benny had a love and affection for navigation, flying and adventure. He explored much of the Caribbean and South America with his own plane. He eventually fell in love with Grenada in the West Indies where every year he shared his time between Grenada, Oakville, Ontario and Peace River Alberta. Benny will be deeply missed by all those who had the opportunity of knowing him. Friends will be received for Prayers at Chapel of Memories Funeral Chapel, 9813-101 Street, Peace River, Alberta on Monday, December 12, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be held from Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church, Peace River on Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at 1:30 with interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Peace River. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Holy Family Catholic Schools Comprehensive Youth Ministry Program.
