Benjamin Butterworth Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 16, 2012.
Ben Butterworth, USMC Retired, lost his short but courageous battle with cancer on March 14, 2012. He has now crossed that Rainbow Bridge and joined his beloved Fred, Wilma and Pebbles to name just a few.
Ben was born September 16, 1934 in Barnesboro, PA and is pre-deceased by his father and beloved Mother Edith.
Left behind to remember his fantastic sense of humor, words of wisdom, steadfast belief in loyalty to country, family and friends is his wife of 22 years, Janice Orrell-Butterworth and the 4 loving daughters he raised; Ellen Camin of Raleigh, Janet and husband Dwight Little of Durham, Ruth and husband Jeff Watson of Cary and Jennifer Bullock of Fuquay-Varina.
He leaves 6 grandchildren, Christopher Camin of Raleigh, Katherine (Camin) Farrow of Alaska, Jeffrey and Emily Watson of Cary, Lawton and Anders Bullock of Fuquay-Varina as well as 2 great grandchildren, Nikkita Camin Farrow and Alayna Camin.
Ben is survived by his sister, Elin and husband Murray Steffey and their 3 sons, Tom and wife Martha, Tim and wife Cindee, and Mark as well as 4 second generation nephews, Josh, Kyle, Nathan and Zachery; his half brothers Charlie, Ralph and Bob and half sister, Cindy all of Pennsylvania.
Also mourning him is his cherished, couch potato blanket-snatching Jack Russell, Petey.
We will all miss him dearly.
After his USMC retirement, Ben joined several military organizations, including, but not limited to the DAV, American Legion and the VFW. He is a Past Post Commander of the VFW. Twenty some odd years ago, he was fortunate enough to enjoy an early retirement from CP&L.
In lieu of flowers, it was Ben's request that you adopt a shelter pet or make a donation to an animal-related charity.
Following with Ben and Janice's tradition, Ben has asked that all of his friends gather at the Anchor Inn located on Holden Beach Road and further request that attire at his Memorial Service be casual. Memorial Service will be at 11:00 on Friday March 23 at Coble Ward Smith, 603 Ocean Hwy, Supply, NC.

Read about Ben's passing in the N&O. We worked together at CP&L in the 70's. We always laughed and joked around. Ben was always a very nice person. ......Gloria Draughon (Raleigh)

Hold tight to memories for comfort,
Lean on your friends for strength,
And always remember, those we love don't go away,
They walk beside us every day.
