Benjamin Kinsman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 16, 2016.
Our community has suffered another tragic and senseless loss of precious young life with the passing of Benjamin Jacob Kinsman, 28, of 104 Burgess Drive, Towanda, Pa. on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016.
"Ben" was born in Towanda on Dec. 28, 1987, the son of Keith G. Kinsman and Ellie M. Shaffer Kinsman. Ben's love of sports began at an early age. He had fantastic and caring coaches who encouraged him to excel in football, track and basketball during his school years. He was a graduate of Towanda Area High School class of 2006 and following high school, Ben attended Lackawanna College and completed courses at Mansfield University in pursuit of a degree in business. Leaving his long-time employment with Original Italian Pizza in Wysox where he was regarded as family, he was recently hired by local industry. Ben also assisted his father Keith in the family business. In addition to his love of sports, Ben enjoyed music, discussing and debating politics and current events and was an avid reader. He recently began attending the Independent Baptist Church in Towanda where he was deeply loved.
He leaves behind his parents Keith and Ellie Kinsman; his sister whom he deeply admired, Katie Kinsman, all at home as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, teachers, coaches and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Robert H. and Avis Kinsman and maternal grandparents, Delmar and Dorothy Shaffer.
A funeral service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016 at the Independent Baptist Church, Cherry St., Towanda with Pastor Donn Hauser officiating. There are no calling hours.
A reception for family and friends will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be private in Bradford County Memorial Park, Burlington Township, Pa. Memories and condolences may be expressed by visiting www.bowenfuneralhomes.com.

My favorite memory of Ben is from 8th grade - we were playing an end-of-year class-wide trivia game and he won against two of our classmates who were typically expected to be winners in such an event. The crowd went wild for Ben when he was declared the winner. I also remember having a composition class with him in high school where he was known to have some interesting and deep insights and perspectives to share. It feels so long ago and also just like last week. I am terribly sorry to hear of this tragic loss. Sending my heartfelt sympathies.

I wish I could have heard what words were said at ben's service. As a parent and a sister, either position would render me speechless during a tragedy like this. I have a ton of hilarious stories about Ben; in 4th grade there was a boy who constantly stole my jump rope. Ben noticed, took my jump rope back from him and tied his ankles together for the entire recess with it. Thanks Benny. Much love to the family!❤
