Bernard Barrett Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 21, 2025.
Bernard Andrew Barrett Jr., age 67, passed away at Baystate Medical Center on May 16, 2025. He was born on December 4, 1957 in Springfield to the late Bernard A. Sr., and Catherine (Martin) Barrett. Bernard received his bachelor's degree from Westfield State and worked as a Correctional Officer for the Hampden County Sheriff's Department for 29 years, just recently having retired. Bernard leaves his loving and devout wife, Bridget (Dusel) Barrett of Ludlow; his son, John Barrett and Kelsey Lockhart of Springfield; three daughters, Eileen Barrett and Paul Cormier of Hardwick, Katherine Barrett of Salem and Elizabeth Barrett of Ludlow; six brothers, Christopher Barrett and his wife Lorraine of Woburn, Thomas Barrett and his wife Michelle of Longmeadow, Michael Barrett and Jillian Parle of Agawam, Peter Barrett and his wife Karen of Longmeadow, Joseph Barrett of Virginia and John Barrett and his wife Amy of Needham as well as three sisters, Mary Barrett of Fairhope, Alabama, Catherine Southworth of Chicago and Annemarie Doyle of Springfield. Bernard "Bernie" Barrett lived an active lifestyle, despite being diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in his early thirties. Bernie was a kind-hearted, caring man with an amazing sense of humor. He loved Boston sports, fishing, and spending time with his loved ones. Bernie greatly valued his family, friends, and catholic faith, as well as his independence. If he wasn't cheering on the Red Sox during a game, you could find him mowing the lawn, reading a good book, or enjoying a glass of wine with his wife, Bridget. Bernie was an amazing man who will be so incredibly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. The family would like to extend their deepest, heartfelt appreciation to the amazing nurses, doctors, and medical staff of the Heart and Vascular Critical Care Unit at Baystate Medical Center, as well as those who have reached out in support with thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 10:30 am at St Cecilia's Church, 42 Main Street, Wilbraham. A period of visitation will be held on the morning of the service at the church from 9 am to 10:30 am. Burial is private for the family. My heartfelt condolences for lovely Bridget and the entire family. My favorite memory of Bernie was his big hands clapping loudly, and cheering as the St Patrick's Parade went by us. He purposely cleared the crowd blocking the view of my two kids. Such a beautiful spirit who wore his heart on his sleeve. We will miss this kind person. Go in peace Bernie.
