Bernard Dyck Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 20, 2015.
Bernard Jacob Dyck passed away on Thursday November 19, 2015 at Cascade Hospice at the age of 77 years old. Bernie was born January 29, 1938 in Saskatchewan, but was raised in Yarrow BC and lived most of his life in Chilliwack BC. Bernie is survived by his daughter Carol Dyck, his sisters Anne Reimer and Helen Thiesen and brother Henry Dyck, He is predeceased by his beloved wife Mary. Bernie spent his early years apprenticing and working in carpentry. After a serious back injury, he went to work selling cars and RV's which he greatly enjoyed. Bernie loved to spend time outdoors working in the yard, building things and most of all camping. He spent many a weekend with his family at the campgrounds of Cultus Lake. Bernie also really enjoyed playing board games and was often the winner, reading, doing math and working on word puzzles. He loved his God, his family and friends with all his heart, to him people came before anything else that was going on.
A great big thank you for the wonderful care of Dr. Paul Graham who came alongside Bernie with his health challenges in the last number of years and to Dr. Bull and the staff of Cascades Hospice who were instrumental in making his final days as comfortable as possible.
A visitation at Henderson's Funeral home will be held Thursday November 26, 2015 from 6-8 in the evening. The memorial service will be at Broadway Church on Friday November 27, 2015 at 1:30 pm.

Uncle Bernie was such a delight to be around, and would always be able to put a smile on my face. I always loved going to their place on Halloween as a kid. We would get the biggest candy bars and a good visit. Of course you couldn't expect anything less because we all know how loving, generous and caring he was. I will miss you dearly and I love you so so much. Rest in peace sweet Uncle Bernie. Xoxo

Uncle Bernie was such a positive person, despite so many challenges to his health. He was quick to smile and always interested in what was going on in our lives. He was a great "little brother" to our mom, Ann, always checking in to see how she was doing. He will be missed dearly.

"Uncle Bernie" was a wonderful example of an uncle. I think he made everyone feel special. For years, religiously, he would give me a call on my birthday. He always viewed the glass as half full. I will miss him.

Bernie at Tim's

During my recent stay in Chilliwack helping out my Mom, Bernie's sister Ann, I had many enjoyable times with my Uncle Bernie. Sometimes at his home on Broadway, sipping Tim's coffee on the back patio talking old times and old cars, sometimes driving him down to Tim's in the Mustang and having our fix there and sometimes down at Planet Earth, his favourite hangout where he was affectionately known as "Bern-Dog" by his good buddy Barb.

My mother, Ann Reimer, loved her brother Bernie and will miss him dearly. Often his beloved blue Mustang could be seen parked in front of her house on Second Av where she lived with her husband Glen. A lot of coffee went down there as well, and I know she will always cherish those visits around the kitchen table.

Bernie was a fun guy to be around, and like his many other friends, I will miss the good times we had together.

Bernie was always a special uncle. We were close to the same age and spent a lot of time together as kids. As adults we spent time as couples camping and enjoying many activities together. We will miss his great smile and joyful attitude.
