Bernard Thear Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 17, 2021.
Thear It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death of Bernard Thear. Bernard was very much loved and respected by his family and friends from all over the United Kingdom. Bernard sadly passed away on Saturday 27th February 2021 after being unwell for 10 months.
Bernard was born in Kendal on
24th November 1947, but eventually moved to the Hayes area in London and served his mechanical apprenticeship in the London Fire Brigade before eventually moving to Waddesdon where he worked for Douglas C Toy as a car mechanic. During his years in the Aylesbury area, he was also a successful motorcycle sidecar racer and competed in the Isle of Man TT. Bernard eventually joined a company called M&J Seafoods as a mechanic and van salesman and over 20 years, worked hard and became the Transport and Warehousing Company Director. After he finished with M&J Seafoods, he then worked for various motorsport companies travelling the world of which he enjoyed so much up until he became ill.

Bernard was married to Barbara Thear (nee Saunders) of which he had a son Shaun Thear. After the passing of Barbara Thear in 1985, he eventually met Maureen Willis (nee Tearle). Maureen had two children Nicola and Darren. Bernard and Maureen were married and lived their later life up in Scotland on the Scottish Borders. Maureen unfortunately passed away
in Scotland, November 2016
from a long illness.

Bernard was much loved and respected by his son Shaun Thear
and will be missed every day.
The Cremation will be up in Scotland at the Borders Crematorium, Melrose on Friday 26th March at 1pm, a live webcast will be streamed on

Such sad news that Bernie is gone, we shared such great times during our FPA Adventures and i will never forget the mad quad bike race through the park at Monza and through the rush hour traffic for Pizza beers...and back again, He was an inspiration to so many of us both at Palmers and of course M& J. Rest now fella, my thoughts are with you and the family.

I have met few such throughly decent guys as Bernie. What a terrible and sad, sad loss. A dependable, diligent and hard working man who was an example to others and who took immense pride in everything that he did. No half measures, everything had to be immaculate and just so. If there’s a gym in the sky I’m sure he’ll be doing a few reps if not helping to run the place by now! Rest in peace Bernard, we’ll remember and miss you. Sincere condolences to the family.

Bernie was such a Gentleman. So kind, charming and strong as an Ox. I saw him many times moving 45 gallon
fuel barrels with his bare hands that men half his age couldn't even contemplate. A lovely man who we all miss very much. Such a tragic loss to us all. I hope he finds peace up in heaven. God bless you Bernie. Xx

A fun day for Bernie a couple of years ago.

Such sad news about such a decent, considerate and hard working man. I remember well our occasional drives to work together and the interesting conversations we had, likewise your diligence and professionalism when at work. Rest in peace Bernie.

Although I didn’t know you as well as some, I’ll always have great memories of the laughs we shared in FPA in 2003. Weather it was when you were driving the car or driving the truck, you were always helping someone out. There was always a story to tell, and as a young lad starting motorsport I can’t think of a better role model to have had. Rest easy Bernie, thank you for the memories.

Bernie you were one of the nicest, strongest and caring men I ever met, no matter if it was the next day, or years later, you would always have time for someone and always wear a smile.
You will be missed. Rest easy x

Bernie, you were a true gent, inspiration and friend. You will be sorely missed by more people than you will ever know. You touched so many people both inside and outside of your motorsport family. I will always remember our times together from the early days at FPA right through to our times at Arden and all the memories in between. I hope you are at peace now Bernie, hanging off some sidecar in the skies.... you will be missed by all who knew you... sleep well my friend x
