Beth Neill Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 21, 2011.
Margaret Elizabeth "Beth" Neill went to be with the Lord on Sunday November 20, 2011. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband Bob Neill, her 3 children, Scott Neill and wife Barbara of Allen TX, Vicki Pirkey and husband David of Kingwood TX, and Shawna Neill of Plano TX, by 3 grandchildren Jon Neill and wife Ana of Frisco, Daniel Neill of Allen and Jennifer Pirkey of Kingwood, brother Roy Adams and wife Dana of Van Alstyne TX, and sisters Pat Naylor of Waxahachie, TX and Dorothy Molter and husband Glenn of Norman, OK and many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents Leroy and Beulah Burr Adams of Van Alstyne, TX. After graduating from Van Alstyne high school in 1947 she attended beautician school and was a hairdresser off and on until her death. In 1951 she married Bob Neill of Van Alstyne, her husband of more than 60 years. Beth loved to cook and was the author of two cookbooks, 30 Years in the Kitchen, 1985 and Be My Guest, 1989. Beth was a member of First Baptist Church of Plano for 42 years where she taught teenagers in Sunday School for many years. Over the years, Beth opened her home to seven foreign exchange students from many different countries who she loved and treated as her own. She was a community representative for AYUSA for approximately 14 years and in that time she placed over 150 students in the metroplex. Beth Neill lived a full and loving life and will be greatly missed by all those that knew her.

Visitation will be on Friday evening, November 25th from 6 until 8pm at the Ted Dickey West Funeral Home. The following day, Saturday November 26th, there will be a service to celebrate her life at 2pm at the First Baptist Church in Plano. Dr. Jerry Carlisle will officiate. Following the service, Beth will be laid to rest at 4:30pm in the Van Alstyne Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials may be made to the Youth Program at First Baptist.

Beth was a wonderful person, cook, hairdresser, confidant, and friend. She cut/styled/permed/dyed the hair of my whole group of girlfriends through the 80's and 90's. She made the delicious chocolate groom's cake topped with strawberries for both Kim Greene's and my wedding. She counseled us on jobs, dates, boyfriends, husbands, babies. I use her cookbooks more than my own mom's recipes. I'm so sorry that we had all drifted away and not kept in better touch to know of her illness and death. Her hosting foreign students was another thing we admired about her. We all know she is in heaven and look forward to seeing her again.

Bob and family-I was just devastated by the news of Beths passing. It certainly is our loss, but Heaven's gain. She did my hair (and my mothers) for over 40 years. She was so wonderful and will be terribly missed. Jill

Dear Bob, Shawna and family, I am so sad at the news of Beth's passing. Bob and Shawna you know how much Beth meant to me. Beth was unique, and inspirational. I shared 6 of the best months of my life living with you as part of my foreign exchange school trip.
I have so many memories, from the day to day, to the activities and special occasions. The fun, the jokes and the laughter, wow we sure had that, and how Beth was so great to talk to. I will never forget those special days.
I wish we lived closer so I could have seen you more. Although I am pretty devastated I could not have seen Beth one more time, I can at least be thankful that we spoke only a few weeks beforehand, and it was like a chance to say goodbye.
I know Beth is in a very special place looking down on us now. And if God has favourites, then I know Beth will be one of them. I will love Beth forever. Filiz xxxx

Hi Bob: Plano friends just told me of Beth's passing. I'm so sorry to hear that she has been ill. As I look over the pictures in the gallery, I am reminded of her energy, positive outlook on life, engaging smile and love of people. You know, she gave Sam his first haircut. Dennis and I always loved being with you both. We remember the wonderful food and fellowship in your home. I get joy out of thinking that she and Dennis are having a great time in heaven. He is probably showing her the ropes, along with Gay and Nick. I'll keep you in my prayers during the coming days. God has been such an encourager to me, comfort in lonely times. Please take care of yourself. Susan Goodwin

Bob and Shawna,

I know your heart. You know that Beth will be missed but fondly remembered for her sweet loving personality and her special gift of friendship. That is certainly how I remember her from the first time we met. We shared many common beliefs and commitments. She was my Dallas barber and I always looked forward to that time.

I did consider her my friend and always enjoyed being with her. My family remembers the meal she helped provide when Julia passed away...especially the bread! So good.

I will miss the celebration service on Saturday because I am in Tampa with my son for Thanksgiving.

Bob lets do lunch when I return.

The email about Beth's passing came in just as I was making popcorn balls from her cookbook, "Thirty Years in the Kitchen." Beth was the director of our Sunday School department years ago. She always had such a good sense of humor, and such a loving heart. She was a great lady and will be dearly missed. Donna Hurst, Plano, TX
