Beth Wise Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 16, 2023.
Sandra Beth Alley Wise (68) passed away peacefully on August 15, 2023. Beth was born in Bloomington, Indiana on August 25, 1954, to George and Norma Alley. The family relocated to Orlando, Florida in 1964.

Beth graduated from Boone High School (Class of 1972), and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Florida Technological University (UCF). To pay for college, she worked at Disney throughout her college career and was a finalist for Disney Ambassador in 1975. Beth's childhood dream was to become a kindergarten teacher. She surpassed that dream by working as a teacher, becoming a headmaster, and ultimately was the author of many children's educational books. The majority of Beth's career was with Robert-Leslie Publishing as an Editor-in-Chief. There she served as the author of more than 50 books and programs for young children. She produced nearly 150 highly acclaimed educational products and served as the co-author of the award-winning InvestiGator Club Inquiry-based Learning Systems. Her hobbies included sewing, racquetball, pickleball, playing the piano, playing games, fishing, camping, and cycling.

Beth's family and friends were the most important things in her life, and she showed her love for them every single day. In 1984, Beth met the love of her life, Joe Wise, at Racquetball South. After meeting Beth, Joe called his sister Janie and told her he had met the girl he would marry. They were married in 1985, and in 1988 their son, Joseph Crockett, was born.

Beth was one of the most selfless and giving individuals anyone could know, truly an angel on earth. In addition to impacting her friends and family with her love and generosity, Beth provided many hours fundraising and volunteering to support many charities. After the tragic death of their son Crockett, she helped to establish the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention chapter in Orlando. From its humble beginning of 350 people, it has now grown 15 years later to over 4,000 participants and has raised more than $150,000 annually. She has counseled many families experiencing the impact of suicide and provided crisis intervention training for local first responders. Beth coordinated a Kiwanis Bike Giveaway for many years, providing hundreds of bikes each year to children. She also volunteered as a judge in the Water Robotics program nationwide, continuing the legacy of Crockett. She volunteered at many schools including Pershing Elementary.

Beth is survived by her husband Joe, daughter Kathryn (Chris Adams), sister-in-law Janie Wise, siblings Brad Alley (Sandy Rice), Mike Alley (Bambie), Todd Alley (Cheryl), Lynn Alley, and Meg Goodrich (Jeff), nieces and nephews Kristen Floyd (Kevin), Chase Alley, Parker Alley, Taylor Alley (Emily), Brantley Goodrich (Allie), Jordan Dixon (Kaelin), and great-nieces and nephews Allie, Carsyn, and Colton Floyd, Brady and Isla Goodrich, Callan and Cohen Alley, and Clarke Dixon. She was preceded in death by her son Crockett, parents George and Norma Alley, and mother-in-law Kathryn Wise.

The family will celebrate Beth's life with a celebration of life on Sunday, August 20, 3 PM at First Methodist Church, 142 E. Jackson Street, Orlando, Florida. To honor the joy Beth brought every day, the family requests that you wear bright colors. A reception at the church will follow the ceremony. If you would like to contribute to a cause special to the Wise family and their underwater robotics competitions, please reach out to Jill Zande ([email protected]) at MATE (Marine Advanced Training Education).

how i wish i had been more diligent in reconnecting with Beth when i moved back to Florida 6 years ago. She truly made a difference in my life as a teenager, with her kindness and her love of music. What an extraordinary life she led. May her memory be the blessing to her family and friends that her presence in my life was to me. All condolences to those she loved and was deservedly loved by. My breath has been taken away by the loss of Beth. I truly loved her. She was my sister in law for a short period of time. I have to many special stories to tell about Beth, but I will give you one of my favorites.

I had not seen Beth in several years, but as strange as it was, we were both in the LA airport flying back to Orlando. I did not even know she was in line behind me to board the plane. As fate would have it, she ended up sitting right next to me. We talked for hours. Everything from A-Z. We shared so many memories, especially about her father who I loved so dearly as well, and still and holds a special place in my heart.

Beth may be gone, but she certainly will not be forgotten.

To all of the Alley family please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. You are all very special to me

I met Beth in 1993 when she was writing the newsletter for Hospice of Central Florida. We became friends. When I think of Beth I see a beautiful smiling face, i hear a voice of assurance and sense the kindness that was always a part of her. Beth was someone without duplicity and full of God's overflowing Spirit. I don't think she ever met a stranger or turned away someone in need. This world has suffered a great loss, but heaven has gained a loving and shining soul.

I met Beth through our kids at Pershing Elementary and was always amazed by her dynamic personality and generous spirit. She always had the children´s best interests at heart and had such a large capacity to give of herself. I can think back to so many fun times during the craziness of volunteering at the various schools our kids attended. Beth was always ready to laugh, cry, comfort-whatever was needed. She will never know how much our epic Friday morning walks healed my soul as she herself was mourning a tragic loss in her life. I´m eternally grateful that I knew her.

I am so devastated & shocked to learn of Beth´s passing & had no idea she had been ill. Beth & I were lifelong friends having initially met when we worked together @ Disney World in the early `70´s. We immediately became fast friends and remained in touch forever. I still have fond memories & photos of our Disney days together when we ran the camera shop in Fantasyland. I still have the "Eyes & Ears" cast member newsletter featuring Beth when she was a Walt Disney World Ambassador runner up. She was loved & admired by all who knew her! Later, Beth & I traveled to Europe together going to Germany, Austria, Italy & Switzerland in 1976. I still have our photos from that fabulous trip. In the 80´s our paths crossed again when we bumped into each other @ Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, Inc. where we were both starting new jobs w/HBJ! We both got married in 1985 & both ended up pregnant a few years later at the same time too. My daughter was born just a few months after Crockett was born, Beth & Joe´s son. Jenna & Crockett both attended Pershing Elementary & were in the same kindergarten class. Beth & I enjoyed volunteering together, planning class parties & being devoted mothers. We enjoyed going to Crockett´s birthday parties every year & swimming in their beautiful pool. Beth always knew how to entertain & make everything so perfect! We enjoyed watching Crockett grow up with so many interests. I also used to visit Beth when she lived in Mt. Dora for awhile before motherhood. Last time I saw her was probably 2016; we met for lunch @ Cheesecake Factory in Winter Park & spent 3 hours talking & catching up on life! Much of our conversation centered around Crockett & the tragic loss she & Joe endured. I had moved to NH 1997-2015, but we immediately reconnected when I got back in town. We remained in touch when we lived in NH too.

I´m so sad to know I won´t see her anymore in this life, but I´m comforted to know she can hold her precious son in her arms once again. Family meant everything to Beth. She always talked so highly of her brothers & sisters, and I know Joe was her world & her strength. My deepest condolences to Joe & all the family on the passing of this wonderful, remarkable lady. To me, Beth could accomplish anything & everything. I admired her from the time I first met her as a teenager when we were so young & my admiration has held strong throughout life. She will be greatly missed, but what wonderful memories she leaves behind with her remarkable legacy & gifts. Love never dies.
