Betsy Johnson Wicker COLUMBIA - Betsy Johnson Wicker, 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 26, 2013, in Lexington Extended Care. She was born April 29, 1925, in Johnston County, NC, to Betty Yelvington Johnson and Anton Marius Johnson. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Carl Elbert Wicker, Sr., and her granddaughter, Anne Marie Wicker. Betsy was a graduate of Cleveland High School and attended Meredith College. She graduated from nursing school at Duke University. Betsy was a nurse at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC, for many years and completed her nursing career at St. Mary's Junior College infirmary. Betsy loved the nursing field, and she was a compassionate and competent caregiver. Betsy will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She had a strong sense of family and remained close to her large extended family. She is survived by her son, Carl Wicker and wife, Elizabeth, of Charlotte, NC; son, Mike Wicker and wife, Martha, of Raleigh, NC; and daughter Terry Stoker and husband, Neal, of Chapin, SC. She is survived by her seven grandchildren: Sarah Wicker Dobson, Katie Wicker Lundin, Tyler Wicker, Ross Wicker, Alex Stoker Cochrane, Abbey Stoker and Ross Stoker; and great-grandchild, Ellie Dobson. She is also survived by her sister, Becky Roberts and husband, Laeron, of Fuquay-Varina, NC; brother, Jerry Johnson and wife, Brenda, of Raleigh, NC, and brother, Ben Johnson of Clayton, NC, along with many, many cousins, nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff of Generations Assisted Living in Chapin, SC, and the medical staff of the Lexington Hospital system for their excellent care and compassion. A private graveside service for family will be held at Oakland Presbyterian Church in Clayton, NC.
