Bettie Dodson Obituary
She was a native of Chesterfield County, the youngest of seven children born to John H. and Rosa Brown Dodson. Ms. Dodson was preceded in death by two sisters, Vernia A. Samuel and Nannie L. Christian and three brothers, Elijah S. Dodson, John M. Dodson, and Hanford Dodson.
She was educated in Chesterfield and Petersburg Public Schools, graduating from Peabody High School in 1960. She was baptized at First Baptist Church, 236 Harrison Street, Petersburg, Va. She worked at Smurfit Stone, Hopewell, Va., for 32 years, retiring in 2005. She enjoyed the Thursdays? Senior Citizen Group at Tabernacle Baptist Church. She loved to read and work in her flower garden.
She is survived by one loving and devoted daughter, Rosalind T. Knowles (Emanuel), and a devoted granddaughter, Brittany E. Knowles both of Mobile, Al.; one devoted sister, L. A. Morberry Parker of South Chesterfield, Va.; five devoted nieces, Rosa D. Bouldin - also a classmate (Wallace) of South Chesterfield, Va., Gwendolyn C. Johnson (Jeffrey), Juanita C. Gayle, and Charlotte A. Christian all of Petersburg, Va., and Janice Johnson of South Chesterfield, Va.; several devoted nephews, William Barksdale (Shirley), Wallace L. Bouldin, Jr. (Francine), Marvin M. Bouldin (Latanya), William Larnell Barksdale, and Terrell Williams all of Chesterfield, Va., Ryan M. Bouldin of Midlothian, Va., Alphonso Barksdale of Macon, Ga., Charles S. Christian, Jr. and Donald L. Christian, Sr. (Katie) both of Petersburg, Va.; special devoted great niece, Dr. Danielle N. Bouldin of Chesapeake, Va., and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service for Mrs. Bettie L. Dodson will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 10, 2013, at First Baptist Church, 236 Harrison Street, Petersburg, Va., the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Tillman, Pastor, and Rev. Betty Jackson, Eulogist. The interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
