Betty Caithness Obituary
Betty was a retired, self-employed artist. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister and grandmother.
Betty is survived by her sons Gary Caithness (Alissa) of Lynchburg and Brian Caithness (Amy) of Wilmington, NC; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Caithness, Christopher Caithness, Jessica Caithness and Kristine Caithness; and other loving family members and friends.
Services will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Autism Speaks, 6330 S San Vicente Blvd #401, Los Angeles, CA 90048.

I went looking for perhaps more new Betty Caithness patterns...I have all..and found this heartfelt news of her passing..seven years ago...She was the only person I wrote a fan letter to...I learned so much from her patterns..how I would have loved to have met her...Some people who saw my wooden items painted with her pattern immediately knew it was hers...Her life touched many others....

So sorry to learn of Betty's passing. I took painting classes from Betty when she began teaching at The Wood Shack (owned by Marlene Cram and me - formerly Suzy White) in Virginia Beach. She was with us about 3 years and her classes/students helped our business thrive. I was pleased to see that after leaving us she went on to designing pattern packets and great success with her talents in the art world. Sincere condolences to the family. Obviously a great loss to the art community.

I have no words to express the loss that so many of us feel. I have joyfully painted Betty's patterns for many years. I have said often that if I had to be stranded on an island, let me take Betty's patterns with me.
She gave us so much through the years...good times, heirlooms, and her talent. She will be with us for many years to come in the heirlooms she taught us to create.

I was deeply saddened to hear that one of my best friends had passed away. I met Betty some 25+ years ago in a Decorative Painting Studio. I was a fairly new decorative painter. When I saw her Rufus Porter Landscape style of painting, I thought her work was some of the most beautiful work that I had ever seen. I still feel the same way today. She was an excellent teacher who had a very relaxed style of teaching. There was nothing difficult about that style of painting but quite time consuming. I took as many classes from her as I could fit into an already busy work and family life. Occasionally, there may have been a word that was misspelled or something off in the typing of the notes/instructions. She would laugh and say, it was Chris' fault as he did the typing of her pattern packets. If ever I had a question about how to do a faux finish or how to adjust a pattern, she was ready, willing and able to tell me what to do. I already miss her. Just knowing that I won't be receiving her phone calls pains me deeply. However, knowing that she is with Chris is comforting. I love you, Betty!!!!
