Betty Carter passed away peacefully on November 21, 2022, at the age of 87. Betty Alice McKenzie was born June 11, 1935, to her loving parents at the family home in Mott, Louisiana.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, November 25, 2022, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Plain Dealing, LA 71064.

Betty was raised at her birthplace and contributed to life on the family farm throughout school. She graduated as Valedictorian from Plain Dealing High School in 1935 and then graduated as Valedictorian from Business College and started her professional life immediately afterward. She began working at the Scottish Rite Temple in Shreveport La. She continued to work at the Scottish Rite Temple for 54 years.

On May 19, 1956, Betty married the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Carter in Plain Dealing, Louisiana. Betty was a loving and cherished wife and mother that always thought of others first. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Earl Carter, her parents Thomas Alton McKenzie and Mary Madelyne McKenzie, and her brother Thomas Lester McKenzie. Betty is survived by her two children, son John Alton Carter and daughter Robin Lynn Carter: her grandson Joshua McKenzie Carter.

Betty was an incredible cook, seamstress and supporter for all things involving her family and friends. She was a constant spectator for thousands of games and events that Bob, or her kids or grandchild were involved with over the past six decades. The smiles and laughter seemed even more pronounced during the last years of watching her only grandson mature in life. She was always quick with a quote or thought on any range of subjects from religious philosophies to modern television. These moments always came with a smile of approval and her small hand touching your hand or arm with love.

The family would like to thank Southern Care Hospice, specifically mentioning Tammy, and Shelia for the incredible passion they provided during our times of need. A special thank you to Christine James for everything you have done to keep her comfortable and smiling for the last seven years. We would also like to thank Monica, Timekia, Shameka, and Brenda who helped with Momma's care throughout the last thirteen years. All these ladies became part of our family and treated Momma like she was their family. We also want to thank the doctors that provided care for our mother.

The family suggests donations to the Alzheimer's Association Organization in lieu of flowers. Donations may be made online.

I want to offer my deepest sympathy to the Carter family. I knew Mrs. Carter from working at Scottish Rite Temple as a young
girl many years ago. She was always kind and sweet. I pray that God will give your family the comfort and peace you need during this difficult time. God bless you.

My mother, Tookie Allen Duhon, has fond memories of your mother. She talks about her often. She doesn´t travel anymore or she would be there for the services. Our family will have you all in our prayers for the days to come. May she Rest In Peace!
