KEIZER - Betty Beverly (Cable) DeBoer, 78, longtime resident of Keizer, Oregon, passed away at home December 30, 2007 shortly after her church carolers had been to her home with Christmas songs and hugs all around. Beverly was born January 15, 1929 in Bend, Oregon. In November of that same year, the Cable family moved to Hood River, Oregon, where Bev grew up, graduating from Hood River High School. Until the time of her death she subscribed to the Hood River News. Beverly, as an adult, was a Book keeper for The Dalles J.C.Penney Store. She later moved to Brookings, Oregon. She and her husband, Wes DeBoer, lived there for a short while after which  the couple managed the Western Auto store in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Bev and Wes Served as Postmasters and general store managers at Chemawa, Oregon, where they enjoyed many friendships with the boys and girlsof the adjacent Indian State School. All their later years were spent in Keizer, Oregon Where they became active members of Keizer Clear Lake United Methodist Church. Bev served as Financial Secretary for about 10 years. She was also active in SHARE, the ladies quilt- making group from church, Beverly headed up that group where the women made hundreds of quilts for local homeless people. She made lasting friendships there. On her own, Bev made quilts for her family, as well as for International Smile Power where her quilts reached the needy in Bolivia, Uganda, Jamaica and other third world countries via her neices Terri Shinn and Judy Chambers. Ms. DeBoer succeeded her husband Wes as a regular driver for Meals on Wheels, a job Bev loved doing until shortly before her death. She really cared for those she took lunches to and frequently spoke of them. Beverly is survived by her brother, Henry T. Cable and wife Della of Wapato, Washington; two neices, Judy (Cable) Chambers and husband Tom of Issaquah, Washington, and Jerri (Cable) Shinn of Sommiamish, Washington; one step-son, Kent DeBoerand and wife Linda of Poway, California. "Auntie Bev" is also survived by 5 grandneices and grandnephews with their spouses and 4 great-grandnephews and neices. She was loved by all.Keizer Funeral Chapel has charge of arrangements. If wished, donations may be made to SHARE, the Methodist Church quilt making group, or the Keizer Meals on Wheels. It was Beverly's request that no services be held. Special thanks is due all of her friends who will miss her and who so ably stepped in to help the family at the time of Beverly's death. Tom and Karen Mason are due an extra helping of "Blessing".Beverly DeBoer will be missed by her family, and by her beloved cat, Junior, who Bev insisted always helped her make quilts by jumping into the pile of blocks to play.
