Betty Dorrian Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 29, 2022.
Betty Dorrian, of West Linn, Oregon, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2022 at the age of 91. Betty was born on July 27, 1930 in San Diego, California to Grace and Leo Dorrian. An avid reader and writer, Betty began her career in journalism with the Seattle Times but she found her true calling in life when her children were born, and she had the opportunity to stay home to care for them full-time until they were all safely in school. Betty then worked as a reading specialist for the local school district so she could be available for her children after school. She later assisted with the founding of Serendipity Center, a nonprofit therapeutic school in Portland, Oregon.

Betty was an adoring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her children Belinda (Patrick) Sliger, David (Char) Marier, Amanda (Steve) Marier; her grandchildren Rachel (Ben) Sliger, Emily (Nathan) Wiese, Patrick Sliger, and Brett Sliger; and her great-grandchildren Carter and Lauren Wiese. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones.

Betty's family would like to extend their gratitude to River Terrace Memory Care and Brighton Hospice for their loving care of Betty.

Betty lived at the assisted living facility that I worked at for a couple of years. She had a deadpan sense of humor that I really appreciated. She also taught me some valuable things about dementia. She was able to express what it was like to be aware that her memory was failing. It was a heartbreaking condition to see her struggle with, but I thank her for being authentically herself through it all. My condolences to Belinda, and all of Betty's family.
