Betty Brown Wheat Hawthorne BRISTOL, Tenn. Betty Brown Wheat Hawthorne, age 85, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, at Bristol Nursing Home. She was born May 22, 1925, to the late Albert Roy Wheat and Ruby Brown Wheat. She was a lifelong resident of Bristol. She joined Reynolds Memorial United Methodist Church on June 25, 1939, and remained a faithful servant. She was a member of the A.D. Reynolds Sunday School Class, a member of the Dorcas Circle, and a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary She was a graduate of Virginia High School. Mrs. Hawhorne retired from Raytheon with almost 30 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Elbert Preston Hawthorne, on Sept. 28, 2009; and her sister, Doris Wheat Hicks. Survivors: daughter, Carol Hawthorne Taylor and husband Tony; granddaughter, Emily Taylor Gonce and husband Elgin; grandson, Jared Ryan Taylor; one niece; and two nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, from the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richie Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Weaver Funeral Home. In addition to flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Reynolds Memorial United Methodist Church, 327 Mary St., Bristol, VA 24201.
