Betty Jarvis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 15, 2022.
On Easter Sunday, April 17th, 2022, the Lord welcomed home Betty Ann Jarvis (100). Betty, "all wool and a yard wide", was born August 18,1921 in Little Falls, Minnesota, to George Osea Hammerbeck (Sweden) and Clara Marie Jensen (Iowa). Having grown up on the farms in Randall and Little Falls, Betty moved to Minneapolis in her 20's where she met James Henry Martin. Eventually moving to San Francisco to become Mrs. Betty Martin. A true WWII romance, Army PFC Martin, was killed in action in Okinawa, Japan in 1945. Betty then moved to Los Angeles, employed by the Employment Service. There, she met and married the love of her life, a retired Air Force Sargent, Norman Putnam Jarvis (Put). And they began a journey of over 51 years of marriage, from Los Angeles, to Whittier, to Las Vegas, Nevada. She and "Put" spent many wonderful years in Whittier, with Betty raising their 4 children and Norman working for Rockwell. Notably, Betty's guacamole was the talk of the town. In the 1980's they retired to Las Vegas. Betty was widowed in 1998. She spent many more years in Nevada, keeping up with current affairs, working magic with the casino video poker machines, beating the crosswords, and enjoying the many desert crossing visits from her family. Betty moved back to California in 2017 to be closer to family. She reminisced fondly and frequently about Minnesota, her family, the 20's, the 40's war years, and life in Whittier and Las Vegas with Norman. And she loved us all well. Though she had many hobbies and an intellect to be envied, Betty was humble, gentle, kind and soft-spoken. Having lived a full life, she was always someone we could go to for advice knowing any given was done so with unconditional love. Always on the forefront of her mind and heart were her loved ones, and all those that have gone before her. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Norman (Put), son Scott, her Ma & Pa, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters. She is survived by her son Paul (Paula), her daughters Patricia (Randy) and Christine (Jerry), 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 1 sister, and Barney. Our most beloved Betty, Mom, Mama, Grama and Bema, "spread your tiny wings and fly away" as heaven and those you love so dearly, await. We will always remember the gift of time and love that you gave to us and we'll love and miss you always. Rest in Peace Beautiful Mama.
