Betty Leamons Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 2, 2022.

Betty Mae McManus Elliott Leamons, 92, died November 1, 2022 at her home in Camden, AR.  She was born in Tulip, AR to B.F. (Frank) McManus and Pearl Williams McManus.

Betty was a faithful member of Fairview United Methodist Church throughout her life.  She served the church in many ways, including being church secretary for many years, a Brownie Troop leader, member of the choir, pianist for the J. W. Williams Class and others as needed; served on numerous committees and helped plan, prepare and serve countless meals over the years.   Betty spent an untold amount of her life taking care of others’ needs, be they family or friends.  She was known for her faith as well as love of family and friends, dependability, trustworthiness, and, of course, her cooking skills.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, James Stephens (Jim) Elliott and Paul E. Leamons; her brother, Hugh McManus; brothers and sisters-in-law, W.R. Swaty, George Elliott, Wiley Elliott, Forrest and Virginia Leamons, Glen and Katharina Leamons, Doyle and Leona Leamons, Burl and Charlene Leamons, and Beth Leamons. Survivors include her children, James Stephens (Steve) Elliott Jr. (Kim) and Kathy Marie Elliott Daniel (Rick); grandchildren, Kristina (Kristi Jo) Covington (Brian Holly) and Donnie Betts (Chris); great-grandchildren, Charle Covington (Devinn), Lexi Betts and Michael Betts;  great-great-grandchildren, Addison Brecheisen and Nova Covington; sister, Shirley Swaty; sisters-in-law, Lou Bass, Elaine Elliott, Judy Elliott, brothers-in-law, Lawrence Elliott (Frances), Bill Elliott,  Bob Matthews (Brenda), nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family is sincerely grateful to Dr. Dan Martin, Dr. Larry Braden and all of the caregivers from Doctor’s Home Care and OCMC Hospice for their extraordinary care. Also, special thanks are due to Feleicia Walton and ladies of Sweet Home Elderly Services for their care, friendship, and concern.

Visitation will be Friday, November 4, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Fairview United Methodist Church with funeral service to follow at 10:00 a.m.  Burial will be at Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Fairview United Methodist Church Food Pantry would be much appreciated.

I’m so sorry to learn of my beautiful and kind sweet neighbor’s passing! God must have needed two beautiful angels on Nov. 1st as he also called my precious 100 year old great aunt Frances home on this day. We have loved being Miss Betty’s neighbor these last 17 years and we will truly miss seeing her come and go as she ran her errands. We will keep you all in our prayers in the days to come and pray you seek comfort as only our Savior can give.

So sorry to hear about Ms. Betty. Everyday when I passed her house on my bus I thought about her, wondered how she was, I didn’t even know she was sick. She was always so kind to me. I know the church is really going to miss her.
