Betty Palm Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 21, 2023.
Betty Bell Palm, aged 94, peacefully passed away on August 25, 2023, in Hoschton, GA. She was born on May 12, 1929, in Ashville, Ohio, to Lola Vertna Hoover and Thomas Hoover. Betty was a cherished wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and dear friend leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness.

Betty was preceded in death by her mother and father, sisters Lola, Helen and Rosemary; brother Paul; son Dean Palm and grandson Brian Stanley.

Throughout her life, Betty embodied the values of family, faith, and community. She was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, John (Jack) Palm, with whom she recently shared her 74th wedding anniversary.

Betty was a nurturing mother to her children, always providing a safe and loving home. She was extremely proud of her children and enjoyed watching them pave their own path in life. She was a pillar of strength but quietly worried about the well-being of others while putting her own needs second.

Betty was also a proud and active 46 year member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Stow, Ohio where she served on many groups and committees positively impacting the lives of others.

Betty's warm smile and gentle nature touched the lives of many. She had a deep appreciation for simple pleasures, finding solace in nature and the beauty of everyday life. Betty loved the outdoors and could often be found sitting in the yard pulling weeds or tending to the garden. After a long day, she enjoyed relaxing in the backyard swing sharing a beer and memories with Jack. She dearly loved her neighbors and friends and often opened her home with the offer of a piece of her famous homemade pie, cup of coffee, conversations and laughs. She also loved sharing a cool northern Ohio evening sitting by a crackling fire enjoying time with her great neighbors.

Betty was also a diehard Ohio State fan! She enjoyed most sports but especially loved rooting-on the Buckeye basketball and football teams. We'll always cherish her leaps from the chair at the excitement of a big play or nervously chewing her nails in the tense moments. Win or lose, she lived by the words composed by Fred Cornell in 1902; While our hearts rebounding thrill, with joy which death alone can still, summer's heat or winter's cold, the seasons pass the years will roll, time and change will surely show, how firm thy friendship....OHIO! She will forever be with us in the room for THE big game!

Betty will be dearly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will forever be cherished by her surviving daughter, Jackie Oleski (Ray), Son, Mark Palm (Susie), Daughter-in-Law Karen Palm (Dean), Grandchildren, Laurie Stanley-Vojtko (Dave), Hannah Palm, Jonathan Tondreau (Alicia), Christopher Palm, Spencer Tondreau (Holly) and Great Grandchildren Connor, Rachel, Ryan, Rustin, Lucas, Cecelia, Addison, Scarlett, Brody; great-great grandchildren Riley and Harper and many close family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to inspire us all.

In honoring Betty's life, her family kindly requests donations to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in her memory.

A service in memory of Betty will be held at 1:00 pm, Oct 14, 2023 at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Stow, Ohio with reception following.

Our condolences go out to the family. We had the privilege of meeting Betty several times. Always kind and welcoming, she consistently showed interest in us and our Dutch family. At her home, we always felt a warm welcome. Just this past June, we visited Jack and Betty. The visit was too short, but we're grateful that we had the chance to speak with Betty. It's a cherished memory for us.
