Betty Sue Tyler Betty Sue Potterfield Tyler, age 85, of Warrenton, Va. died Monday, October 18, 2010 at Fauquier Hospital. She was the widow of W. Edmund "Ned" Tyler.

Born March 11, 1925 in Loudoun County, she was the daughter of the late Harry S. and Evelyn Nisewarner Potterfield of Lovettsville, Va. Her ancestors were among the earlier settlers of Maryland and Virginia. Betty Sue was active in 4-H growing up and was made a 4-H All Star. She attended Mary Washington College. On July 1, 1944 she married Ned Tyler of Aldie, Va. at Fort Robison, Arkansas as he was preparing to leave for active duty in Europe. Once the war was over they resided in Blacksburg, Va. and Raleigh, N.C. before moving to Warrenton in 1951. Before Ned retired they had a brief assignment in Kingston, Jamaica.

Betty Sue spent many years in local PTA's and served as a volunteer at the Fauquier Hospital Thrift Shop. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church. As a couple Ned and Betty Sue were dedicated Hokie fans and spent many years enjoying the company of the "Fun Club", they also relaxed at the Fauquier Swim Club and the Fauquier Springs Country Club and spent much time traveling.

She is survived by her brother, Thomas T. Potterfield of Savannah, Ga. and four daughters, Susannah Tyler of Orange, Va., Roxanne (Dennis) Dinneen of Warrenton, Va., Elizabeth "Betsy" (Greg) Feldman of Roanoke, Va. and Ruth Evelyn "Eve" (Tom) Roemhildt of Midlothian, Va. Also surviving are grandchildren Heather, Kathleen and B.J. Herndon; Stuart and Ellen Dinneen; Anne Tyler and Ned Feldman; and Will and Lorin Roemhildt.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, October 22, 2010 at St. James Episcopal Church, 73 Culpeper, St., Warrenton, Va. with Rev. C. Christian Pierce officiating. Interment at Middleburg Memorial Cemetery will be private.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Fauquier Hospital System Foundation, 500 Hospital Drive, Warrenton, VA 20186, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, 6 Herndon Ave., Annapolis, MD 21403 or your local 4-H Club.
