Bing Moy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 12, 2025.
Bing Hen Moy, a beloved member of the Boston, Mass. community, passed away suddenly, August 8, 2025, at the age of 95. Bing was born in Guangdong, China on October 10, 1933 to Guey Taw (Sam) Moy and Kam Hang Hew, and immigrated to America in 1957 where he built a life starting in the Chinese laundry business in the Back Bay and moved on as a restaurateur first at the Golden Gate Restaurant on Beach Street and then several other businesses in and around the Boston area.

Central to his life was his service as a community leader in Chinatown. Bing was a very active leader of the Moy Shee Association of New England, the Chinese Merchant's Association, Kuo Min Tang of Boston, and the Greater Boston Chinese Golden Age Center. Through these roles, he supported and uplifted many within the Chinatown community.

He also had a very deep love of Chinese music and devoted much of his time to preserving and promoting Cantonese Opera and was the first to bring opera troupes from China to perform at the John Hancock Hall in Boston. Bing was a dedicated member of the Que Shing Chinese Music and Opera Group and served as an artistic director to the Muklaan (Inheritance of Cantonese Opera Culture) Club.

When his feet were young, his love for music extended to weekly jaunts to Moseley's on the Charles or Wonderland Ballroom where he and his dear wife would dance the night away with their closest friends.

Bing is survived by his son Jimmy (Mary) of Waltham, Eddie (Kathy) of Southboro, David of Boston, Ellen Moy-Maneikis (Charlie) of Dorchester, Kenny (Ann) of Belmont, and Sam of Boston. He also leaves 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his devoted wife Fung Kee (Chin), his son Benny and grandson Clifford.

Bing Hen Moy's life is a wonderful example of dedication, community service, and cultural preservation. His legacy will continue through his family and the countless lives he touched.

Friends and family are invited to his funeral service at the Deware Funeral Home at 576 Hancock St, Quincy, MA 02170 on Saturday, August 16, 2025 from 9AM to 12PM (ET) to honor and celebrate Bing Hen Moy's life and legacy. Interment immediately following at Forest Hills Cemetery, Jamaica Plain.
