Boblyn Elaine Gumpf

Chippewa Township

Boblyn Elaine Gumpf, 83, ("Bobbie" as her friends and family called her), of Chippewa Township passed away suddenly on Friday, June 26, 2015.

Born on January 14, 1932, in New Brighton, PA to Agnes and Carl Milton Olson, Boblyn graduated from Beaver Falls High School in 1950 and from Providence Hospital Nursing School in 1952. She married the love of her life, Herbert George Gumpf ("Bert"), 63 years ago.

Although an RN, Bobbie gave up nursing to run the garden center associated with her husband's landscape architecture career, now Gumpf Gardens. When she was asked "Why?" Bobbie replied, "Because my husband needed me." An expert in ornamental trees and shrubs and their care, she successfully ran the garden center for almost 40 years.

Bobbie was active in the Chippewa United Presbyterian Church Ladies Group, book clubs, card clubs and other charity organizations.

She is survived by her husband; her sister and brother-in-law, Carol Ann and Dick Walker (Phoenix, Arizona); her daughter and son-in-law, Judy Rae and Nick DiGiovine (Butte, Montana); her daughter, Jan Gumpf Weeks (Forest Grove, Oregon) and her son and daughter-in-law, Jim Gumpf and Amy Thurrott (Patterson). Their seven surviving grandchildren and their spouses are Stephen James and Nicole Gumpf (South Beaver Township), Caitlin Marie and Kyle Denning (Eugene, Oregon), Allison Rae and Anthony Burns (Pittsburgh), Alexis Rae and Kevin O'Leary (Detroit Michigan), Eric DiGiovine (Butte, Montana), Kristen Nicole Gumpf and fiancé Steve Gregory (Pittsburgh), and Michael Andrew Gumpf (State College, Pennsylvania), and there is one great-grandchild, Madelyn Deborah Gumpf who turned one on June 16, 2015.

Boblyn was a firecracker, but yet a lady - strong in mind, spirit and heart. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the GABAUER-LUTTON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 117 Blackhawk Road, Chippewa Twp., www.gabauerluttonfuneralhome.com, where opening prayers will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday and a funeral service will be held at Chippewa United Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Scott Graham officiating.

Interment will be at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
