Bradley A. Root, 48, of Towanda RR 4 (Towanda Township), Pa., passed away Friday evening, Jan. 11, 2008, at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, Pa., following a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Born July 1, 1959, in Towanda, he was the son of Robert L. and Reta Kuykendall Root.

"Brad," as he was known to family and friends, was a graduate of Towanda High School Class of 1977, where he was a terrific baseball player in high school and American Legion baseball.

He was a long-time employee of Osram-Sylvania in Towanda until his health would no longer permit him to continue.

Brad was member of the Towanda Country Club, Towanda Bowling Association, and Monroeton Rod and Gun Club and was a social member of the Beirne-Webster V.F.W. Post No. 1568, Towanda. He was an avid reader, Dallas Cowboys fan and New York Yankees fan. Brad enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and golf.

He possessed a great love of animals and spending time with children. In his younger years Brad was an accomplished artist.

Surviving are: his parents, Robert L. and Reta K. Root of Towanda RR4; his brother, Scott Root and his fiancée, Barbara Thompson of Cedar Park, Texas; his sisters, Sheryl Long and her husband, Steven Long, of Millersburg, Pa., Karen Wilcox and her husband, Gary Wilcox, of Towanda; his nieces and nephews, Deanna Root, Heather and Christopher Long, and Daniel and Brittany Potter; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Raymond Kuykendall and Grace Kuykendall Schultz; his paternal grandparents, Carl and Eva Root; and an infant niece, Andrea Root.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, with the Rev. Richard Barner, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Towanda, officiating.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Interment will be in the Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills, Pa., following the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions may be directed to the Towanda Public Library, 104 Main St., Towanda, Pa. 18848, in Bradley A. Root's memory.
