Brent E. Butler

On a crisp, fall day we had four special angels take our husband, father, grandpa, son, brother, uncle and friend home. Brent Edwin Butler followed his dad Dick, Uncle Ward, friends Lynn and Lamon, to the next big round-up in the sky on November 17, 2010. Brent was born on May 31, 1956 in Provo, Utah. He was the older brother to Debbie Butler of Payson, Stacy (Evan) Nielsen of Spanish Fork and Kent (Deann) Butler of Payson. He graduated from Payson High School with Honors. Brent learned to work hard on the farm from his Grandpa Butler and Uncle Ward. His passion for horses began at a young age with encouragement from his dad. He broke several colts and spent many hours with friends and family shoeing horses with which many long lasting friendships were made. On September 22, 1978 he married Denise Lynn Smith in Spanish Fork. Together they had three children Kristy (Dan) McNally of Beamsville, Ontario Canada, Becky (Jason) Jones of Eureka, and Richard Butler of Spanish Fork. Brent knew he could leave because he had the two best sons-in-law to take care of his girls. He was very proud of all his children. His proudest moments were of Kristy qualifying for the National High School Finals Rodeo, Becky winning the All-Around Cowgirl Saddle at the Silver State International Rodeo, and Richard enlisting in the Utah National Guard where he received Expert in Riflemanship. All Brent's memories were made cooking dutch oven extravaganzas for friends and family and camping up the canyon. Brent found his true love in life when he became a grandpa to Braylon Wayne and Sandra Sue. He argued until blue in the face that his grandkids were the cutest in the world and he had pictures to prove it. We know he is holding Kristy and Dan's new baby that will be here any day. He was a member of the Diamond Fork and Cocklebur Riding Clubs. Brent worked as a journeyman bricklayer and was employed with Powder River, Mapleton City and most recently with Park Elementary School in Spanish Fork. Even though he had been at Park Elementary for a short time, he said it was the only place where people thanked him for doing a good job. Brent was an old fashioned cowboy and believed that a handshake and your word sealed any deal. Brent's truest friends came from riding clubs, C.U.B.R.A., and in the rodeo stands. He did it his way until the end. He is survived by his wife, children, brothers, sisters; mother, Wilma (Darrell) Stewart of Payson, several aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He will be sorely missed by his four-legged children, Cookie and Cutter. A huge thank you goes to the University of Utah ICU Burn Unit's entire staff, especially Dr. Morris, Dr. Hewit, and Devan. Funeral services will be on Monday, November 22, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Spanish Fork 2nd Ward Cultural Hall, 98 S. Main Street, Spanish Fork, with viewings on Sunday evening, November 21st from 6-8 p.m. at Walker Mortuary, 187 S. Main, Spanish Fork or on Monday morning from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
