Brett Wallace Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 8, 2025.
Brett Harrison Wallace, 49, of Silver Spring, Maryland, passed away on January 18, 2025, at Holy Cross Hospital.

Brett was born on November 5, 1975, in Yorktown, Virginia, to Sandra Jane Wallace and Larry Eugene Wallace. He grew up in Yorktown and attended Tabb High School before going on to study Landscape Architecture at Virginia Tech and Colorado State University, building a lifelong career centered around his love for trees, plants, and nature.

Brett began his career in New York City, including working as a Senior Urban Designer for the New York City Department of Transportation, where he played a key role in shaping public spaces. He later moved to the Washington, D.C., area and worked for Arlington County's Department of Community Planning, Housing, and Development for 12 years as a Principal Planner/Urban Designer. He was a Registered Landscape Architect and Certified Arborist. His passion for urban design and sustainability extended to leadership roles, including serving as President of the Potomac Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects from 2014 to 2015. He also led the bi-annual DesignArlington awards program, bringing together the design community to recognize and celebrate excellence in architecture and urban design.

Beyond his professional work, Brett was dedicated to environmental advocacy and community engagement. He was a Board Member of the Gowanus Canal Conservancy in Brooklyn, where he led the Clean and Green Program, a community initiative focused on beautifying and promoting sustainability in the Gowanus Canal area.

Brett is survived by his wife, Amanda Joy Wallace, and their daughters, Sabrina Ivy, and Violet Isabel Wallace. He is also survived by his mother, Sandra Jane Wallace.

Known for his humor, kindness, and loyalty, Brett was a devoted husband, a loving father, a caring son, and a cherished friend. He was a considerate neighbor, always ready with a smile and a helping hand. He loved his family and community.

A Celebration of Life will be held on February 23, 2025, from 11 AM to 2 PM at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, Maryland.

Brett's presence, warmth, and passion for the environment left a lasting impact on those who knew him. He will be deeply missed.

Brett was a person of few words, but he spoke, you listened! His humility, integrity, and character was unmatched. Every year without fail, he would recognize and show his appreciation and gratitude to the Administrative Support Team with a plant, and a gift card to Starbucks. What I loved most about Brett was the love that painted his family portraits on social media. He adored his girls as only a girl Dad would, we had an on going joke about him being surrounded by all the ladies in the household, including the pet!!! Rest in heavenly peace dear friend. You will be sorely missed. GCJ
