Brian Quintenz Obituary

Published by Decatur Herald & Review on Apr. 19, 2011.
DECATUR - Brian Douglas "Doug" Quintenz, 47, of Decatur, went to be with his Savior at 12:54 a.m. Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Barnes -Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Memorial service to celebrate Doug's life will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2011 at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1177 W. Hickory Point Rd., with Pastors Tim Crump and Ed Abla officiating. In lieu of flowers, living plants or memorial contributions may be made to the wishes of the family. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is assisting the family with these arrangements. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.gracelandfairlawn.com. Doug was born February 17, 1964 in Decatur, the son of Leo and Mary (Camden) Quintenz. He was the owner/operator of Right on Q BBQ. Doug enjoyed barbecuing, fishing, Illini basketball, traveling, warm weather, and especially spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed watching his wife sing with The Still. He married Christy Chamblin March 23, 1990. Doug's generosity, sense of humor, and bright smile will be greatly missed by his many friends and family. He always put his family first, but seemed to have endless time and energy for his friends, church, and community. He leaves behind Christy, his beloved wife of over twenty-one years, children, Briana Park and husband Jared and Branson Douglas Quintenz all of Decatur, parents, Leo and Mary of Decatur, sister, Teri Martin and husband John of Decatur, grandchildren, Jamie and Liam, and his dog, Lydia Marie. He was reunited in Heaven with his niece, Cadie Martin. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Velasco at Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois and Dr. Linehan and the nurses and staff at Barnes-Jewish Hospital for all of their compassionate care. Get the pool ready and spark the grill, Doug. We'll see you again. Obituary written by family members. Online guest book at http://legacy.com/obituaries/herald-review/

Christy, you were sure blessed to have found a love like you and Doug had. It's very rare. He was a wonderful guy, always happy, polite, cooperative, fun to have in class, and sooo handsome. You were a perfect couple. You could see the love in his eyes in the photos shown at the funeral today... the wonderful love felt by all the friends and family of Doug and you was also evident today. It is my honor to know you both. My sympathies, Christy, wish I could make it better, but only God can do that. Love you!

Only met a few times and he treated me as though I was a long lost friend. Thoughts of you and Jared in the 57 for your wedding and me and your father talking, realizing we were the same age. Nothing can express the sorrow in my heart that I feel for you at this time of loss, just know you are loved and he is watching you and will guide you!

Several of our classmates, Bud, emailed and called to tell me about Doug. I can't even imagine what you must be going through. At times like this, I always tell the family--remember the good times. My favorite quote is "God gave us memories so we can have roses in December". Just know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

It's amazing how facebook can teach you so much about a person you didn't really know. I felt I got to know my cousin even more in the last few years just by chatting with him on FB or by reading his posts. He was so generous to his friends and family, and I could tell he genuinely loved people and life! I will continue his love of 'people watching' at the airports during my travels. May Doug watch over all of you and keep you safe. I am sure he will be up in Heaven fishing and BBQ'ing away!

love, beth

Doug, good men such as you are a gift from God even if only for a little while. As all good men do, you have left an awful hole in the fabric of our community and in our hearts. I will miss your easy way, your gentle smile and good conversation while we listened to Christy sing. I know that love you have lives on in your sweet soul mate, Christy and your family. You are no doubt with Jesus now and we should celebrate that much. Because that means this is not "Goodbye" but rather it is "See you later". Meanwhile, I miss you my friend. I will lend my support to your lovely bride and family. I pray she will ask if she needs ANYTHING. I will see you later Doug.

Doug, you were only in our lives for a couple of years, but you were always one of the most kindest giving people my wife and I ever met. You and Christy were there for us when I was in a great time of need, not that you had too, but because you wanted too. Holly and I always saw you and Christy as family and it will always be that way. I was honored to know you, and we'll see you again. Thanks for being my friend. -Geoff Duncan
