Brian R. Starr

June 2, 1955 - April 23, 2025

Brian R. Starr, 69, of Youngstown, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and hard work. Born on June 2, 1955, in Youngstown, Brian was the son of Jerome and Olga (Duda) Starr.

A 1973 graduate of Ursuline High School, Brian married his high school sweetheart, Patricia (Patty) Kostik, on September 12, 1981. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around family, perseverance, and humor.

Brian began his career working alongside his family at Holly Beverage Company, a business deeply rooted in the community. After its closure, he transitioned into tire and wheel sales, eventually founding 5 Starr Tire and Wheel in 2013 with his sons - bringing new life to the very building that once housed Holly Beverage.

A gifted salesman and natural businessman, Brian had an unmatched ability to bring energy and fun to every situation. Known for his sharp wit and playful teasing, he had a unique way of showing his love - to be "called out" by Brian was truly a badge of honor - a sign of his affection. His actions always spoke louder than words, and his loyalty and devotion to those he loved never went unnoticed. Affectionately known as "Big Dog" by his family, Brian had a larger-than-life presence that filled every room.

Brian loved spending time on the golf course, visiting the casino, and placing sports bets - always in search of a good win. Some of his happiest days were spent on the lake, boating, fishing, and waterskiing, often giving family and friends a thrill with his signature "Big Dog turns". Brian was known for his "original" Christmas cards, his "beautiful" flowers, and his love of gardening. An excellent cook, Brian delighted in preparing meals, and family gatherings were always made more special by sharing his cooking.

Brian leaves behind his three children: Shannon (Greg) Dudash of Poland, OH; Jeremey Starr of Poland, OH; and Eric Starr (fiancée Katie) of Boardman, OH. He also leaves four cherished grandchildren: Leo, Jane, and Patrick Dudash, and Avery Starr.

He is survived by his brothers Bill (Kathi) Starr and Bobby (Michelle) Starr; his sister Bonnie Kosta; sister-in-law Sherry (Mike) Longrich; and brother-in-law Joe Kostik. Brian was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews: Anthony, Jason, Christina, Michael, Josh, Matt, Ben, Alexandra, Jerad, Ryan, Jarrod, Jason, Steve, and Dave.

Brian had many deep friendships in his lifetime and those with Frank and Mike Santisi and his UHS '73 classmates will not be forgotten. Brian will also be deeply missed by his longtime friends and co-workers Jackie and Dave, his special friend Jill, and his crew at the AMA.

Brian was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patty Starr; his sister Beverly Yanni; brothers-in-law Tony Yanni and Norm Kosta; his parents, Jerome and Olga Starr; and his in-laws, Joe and Jane Kostik.

Calling hours will be held Friday, May 9, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Saint Nicholas Church in Struthers, Ohio, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow.

In lieu of flowers, Brian would have wanted everyone to honor his memory by placing a bet or playing a slot machine - and hopefully increasing their winnings.

Brian's vibrant spirit, unwavering love for his family, and his ability to find joy and humor in every moment will be forever missed and fondly remembered.
