Bruce Binder Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 4, 2011.
Bruce Ronald Binder Bruce was born in Chicago, Illinois September 7, 1943, and passed away surrounded by his family on August 30, 2011 at his home in Roy, Washington. Family was Bruce's greatest treasure and he touched the lives of so many dear friends. Bruce's career was in the transportation industry, retiring from Gordon Trucking, Inc. as their Director of Safety where he was very active in various state and federal safety associations. He was instrumental in developing the Homeward Bound program with the Washington State Patrol, which brought numerous missing children home safely. Bruce lived his life to the fullest, never allowing his medical challenges in recent years interfere with his love of life. Hobbies included hunting, traveling, horseback riding, collecting classic cars and he was a member of the King's Men car club in Tacoma. He enjoyed spending time on his farm with his many animals and everyone looked forward to his annual barn party. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Viola Binder, also his wife Gale. He is dearly loved and survived by his wife Cathryn, children Tami Zehnder (Joe), Brent Binder (Sue), and Layle Teddy (Travis), grandchildren Kylie, Lauren, Dylan, Emma, Nicholas and Jordan, mother-in-law Martha Ames, brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Elaine Ames. Bruce's nephew David Ames was very special to his heart. He will be missed by his faithful German Shepherd dog, Ruger, who was always at his side. At Bruce's request, there are no public services. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held at Kelly Farm, 20021 Old Sumner Buckley Highway, Bonney Lake, WA 98391 Sunday, September 18, 2011 from 2 until 5 p.m. Our family would like to thank Dr. Andrea Rose and the staff of Northwest Medical Specialties for their years of dedication to him. Remembrances can be made in Bruce's honor to the Washington State Patrol Homeward Bound Program or the Washington State Patrol Trooper Training Academy in care of Gordon Trucking, Inc., attn: Human Resources, 151 Stewart Road S.W., Pacific, WA 98047.

Bruce was such a caring person and always thought of others before he thought of himself. I know he is in a better place but it still does not make it any easier he is not with us any more.

I love you Bruce, thank you for all your support and caring you gave. You will be missed.

Cathy, remember you always have a friend. And my heart is with the whole family.

Words can never say how much Bruce meant to me so I'll say this Bruce was and is one of my heros and when I finish growing up I hope I'm half the man he was! This trucking thing will never be the same.

Bruce is unforgettable. I came to know him through my work at Gordon Trucking. He was sometimes hard headed but always soft hearted. He was a confidant and a colleague. But more importantly, he was a friend. He indeed has left his mark on the world. I will miss him.

i just wish i had know you before you were sick, you were so upbeat while the fight went on, I cant imagine how you were with not to much bugging you. Miss you much.

I have greatly enjoyed all my dealings with Bruce over the years in the safety work of the WTA. He was a very good man.
Many times I would call him for his thoughts or advice. It was a joy to know him, to work with him, and to count him as a friend. I trust the Lord will bring peace and comfort to the entire family in this huge loss.

I have very fond memories of Bruce from a wonderful childhood spent with his daughter and dear friend Layle. When I think of him I remember his smile and sense of humor. Layle, Brent, and Tami are strong, kind, fun, and loyal, and this is a tribute to the man who raised them!
My thoughts and prayers to all of you during this difficult time.

I'm sure heaven wasn't prepared for Bruce, but I bet they are sure having a good time! Bruce was such a special man. He always had us laughing with his adventures and stories. He had such a big heart. He wanted to come across as being gruff and tough but it only took a few minutes for anyone to realize what a softie he was. His family meant the world to him. Things will never be the same here without him. I feel so blessed to know him the years that I did. Rest in Peace Bruce. You have earned it.
