Doctor Bruce Gordon, 79, passed away peacefully on Aug. 12, 2014, at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, NJ with his wife, Mary-Elaine by his side. Doctor Gordon was born in Brooklyn, NY, to Louis Gordon and Helen Weiss Gordon. The family settled in Shrewsbury, NJ, 1943, later moving to Little Silver, NJ. Doctor Gordon attended Tinton Falls Elementary School and graduated Red Bank High School, 1952, where he played football, basketball and baseball. Doctor Gordon took his pre-medical degree at Tuffs University from 1952 to 1956. At Tuffs he was on the dean's list, served as an instructor in biology, and was a member of the pre-medical society and Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity. He went to Rutgers University, (The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), New Brunswick, NJ, 1956 to 1957, receiving his Masters in Bio-chemistry and Physiology. Accepted into Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, PA, 1957 to1961, Doctor Gordon graduated June 9, 1961 with a M.D. degree. Doctor Gordon interned at Fitkin Memorial Hospital (Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, NJ) from 1961 to 1962. He enlisted in the US Air Force Nov. of 1962. Captain Bruce Gordon served in Germany at Hof Air Station, as a physician. He was honorably discharged Nov. of 1964. Doctor Gordon was plant physician at DuPont Photo Products, Parlin, NJ, 1964 to 1965. He began his medical residency at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, NJ, 1965 to 1969, and finished his residency as chief medical resident. Doctor Gordon initiated his medical practice in 1969, Oakhurst, NJ. Also, Doctor Gordon was an attending physician at Monmouth Medical Center and Jersey Shore University Medical Center; retiring in 1998, due to illness. He also served as a physician with Monmouth Total Health Care, 1992 to 1996.

Doctor Bruce Gordon is predeceased by his parents, Louis and Helen Gordon. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary-Elaine Eskildsen-Gordon; sons, Richard Gordon and wife Donna Gordon, Orlando, FL, Michael David Gordon, Jensen Beach, FL, Glenn Matthew Gordon, Hightstown, NJ; daughters, Sue Ruda, Charleston, SC and Jessica Lynn Torphy, Ocean, NJ. Doctor Gordon had four grandchildren, Carly Ruda, Erica Gordon, Madison Gordon, and Carolyn Torphy. His sisters, Barbara Rubin Byer and husband Charles Byer, Boca Raton, FL, Mindy Gordon Kaminsky and husband Steven Kaminsky, Ocean, NJ; brothers, Marc Gordon, Beachwood, NJ, and James Gordon and wife SoNam Gordon, Chantilly, VA; and brother-in-law, Steven Rubin. He is also survived by multiple aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Doctor Gordon truly loved being a physician and helping others. He enjoyed the Yankees most of all, but enjoyed all sports. He greatly enjoyed playing baseball. He could solve puzzles of any kind, was a humorous individual entertaining family and friends with his many jokes. His motto was "humor is the best medicine". Doctor Gordon had a beautiful singing voice and played the piano with gusto and precision. He was a handyman around the house and enjoyed cooking and reading recipe books. He loved his dogs, especially Minnie. Doctor Gordon will be deeply missed by all who knew him and loved him.

The family has planned a private memorial gathering for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers and gifts, please make a donation to The American Heart Association, and Madonna House Inc., 1401 Seventh Avenue, Neptune, New Jersey, 07753, in the name of Doctor Bruce Gordon.
