Bruce Gottfried Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 8, 2025.
Bruce Gottfried, 74, passed away on April 7, 2025, in Queens, New York. A proud native New Yorker, Bruce was born on May 6, 1950, in Brooklyn to Hilda and Samuel Gottfried.

Bruce earned his bachelor's degree in history from the City College of New York, a foundation that reflected his lifelong passion for learning and curiosity about the world. He built a successful career as a salesman with Burke Supply Co., where he proudly represented accounts across all five boroughs and Long Island. Later in life, he transitioned into the wholesale goods and produce industry. Known for his uncanny ability to connect with others, Bruce earned the respect of colleagues and clients alike through his integrity, dedication, and remarkable photographic memory.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bruce was deeply engaged in his community and faith. He served as a board member at Temple Israel Lawrence and was an active participant in Torah study. He also attended services weekly at the Jewish Center of Kew Garden Hills alongside his best friend and cousin Arnie-a cherished tradition that brought him great joy.

Bruce's interests were as vibrant as his personality. A devoted fan of politics and baseball, he could often be found reading fiction or listening to his favorite music-especially Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Beatles, and The Dave Clark Five. He loved trying new hip cafes and bakeries around the city, attending community meetings with friends, and enjoying nature walks near the local duck pond. A true student of life and an avid New York Times subscriber, Bruce relished thoughtful conversation and never missed an opportunity to share a witty observation or political insight.

Above all else, Bruce lived for his family. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter Morgan King; son-in-law Tom King; granddaughter Harper King; grandson Jonathan King; son Max Gottfried; and many beloved family members and friends including his partner Yvonne Jairam and her children and grandchildren; Max and Morgan's mother Cindy Gottfried; cousins Arnold Gottfried (Arnie), Rachel Gottesman, Deborah Gottesman, and Ben Gottesman.

Bruce faced cancer with quiet strength and unwavering courage. Even in illness, he never let it take away his voice or spirit. Handsome, funny, quirky, kind-hearted, hardworking-and always full of life-he was a loving father, grandfather, partner, cousin, and friend who appreciated life's simple pleasures: good food, good music, time with loved ones.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at Beth Moses Cemetery located at 1500 Wellwood Ave., West Babylon, NY 11704. The service will begin at 10:45 AM.

Bruce was strong. He was loving. And he was deeply loved. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

Rest in peace Papa Brucey you are so loved and missed by me and the kids. Thank you for being the best grand and great-grandfather a young lady could ask for. I think about our fun yet knowledgeable conversations that can go on for lifetimes talking to you can give anyone the motivation to pursue their dreams, the way you´d do anything the boys wanted you to, such as reading to them. The beach feels a little different in Florida but we enjoy the waves, the seashells, and the sand all in your honor. Love you so so much Papa Brucey. - Tee

Bruce was my youngest cousin. I have many happy memories of family visits. Our fathers were brothers and our mothers were best friends. My children remember going to Bruce and Cindy's wedding, which resulted in two wonderful children and two adorable grandchildren. Kudos to Morgan and Max (and to Bruce's partner Yvonne) for the devoted, loving care they gave their father in the last few years. My brother Arnold visited Bruce and did his best to raise morale despite his own health problems.
Bruce will be missed.
