Bruce Nahon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 20, 2023.
Bruce Nahon, 70, of Kirkland, Washington, passed away on July 15, 2023 after battling multiple infections. He was born in Spokane and grew up there until his father was briefly transferred to Phoenix. In a desire to have a cooler climate, his family headed back to Washington, and Bruce spent his teen years in Tacoma, where he formed many of his lifelong friendships.

He attended the University of Washington where he received his Master's degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology. He worked in the Bremerton School District for one year, and then the Northshore School District for several years. In 1985, he took a parenting leave so that he could have more time with his daughters, and could also test-drive a new career in real estate consulting and property management. There was no looking back, and he had an outstanding career, working together with his wife, with his real estate work and her CPA practice having an incredible synergy. People often wondered how spouses could successfully work together, but Bruce and Bea loved it because they worked so well as a team, had more time together and it enabled them to truly have family-work-life balance. He treated each managed property, including several homeowner associations, as though it was his own home, providing 24/7 attention to issues large and small.

Bruce and Bea were set up on a date for a UW fraternity dance when they were high school seniors. Bruce knew that evening that she was the one he wanted to marry. From sophomore year forward, they were each other's one and only, and they were married for nearly 48 years.

He was passionate about social justice, education, animals, providing food and shelter for those less fortunate, and many other causes, and he was determined to make a difference - and he did. He worked and advocated behind the scenes to provide day school tuition assistance for kids whose families otherwise could not afford it. He was known by all as a good and decent man, a man of integrity and honor.

And he had so much fun along the way! From the cars that he drove, the restaurants that he enjoyed, the travels around the US and the world, winetasting, theater and music, he loved every minute of it. He especially enjoyed many trips to New York, where he and Bea would dance at the Rainbow Room, enjoy Broadway shows together and find the best restaurants and deli food on the planet. He enjoyed time with his friends, many of whom he was close to for most of his life. And if you would join him for a martini (or two) or a shot of some well-aged whiskey, all the better!

Most of all, he cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, son, brother, uncle and cousin. Nothing made him happier than the time he spent with us, especially over a wonderful meal together, or just talking about whatever was on our minds. As his illness progressed, he would often say quite simply, "No regrets."

He is survived by his wife, Bea Nahon, daughter Rachel Nahon, daughter and son-in-law Liz Nahon and Josh Robbins, sister and brother-in-law Sue and Larry Broder, mother Fran Nahon, nieces, great-nieces, a great-nephew, and his beloved dog and grand-dogs. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Nahon, and his aunt and uncle, Ada and Don Felson.

Services for Bruce Nahon were held on July 18, 2023. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory can be made to any of the following organizations: Hillel Foundation at the University of Washington (Bruce Nahon Jewish Learning and Leadership Fund), Jewish Family Service of Seattle, Jewish Day School of Metropolitan Seattle, World Central Kitchen, Fred Hutch Cancer Center, Harborview Medical Center Mission of Caring, Seattle Humane Society, or any other local animal rescue organization.

May his memory be a blessing.

Bea, Rachel, Liz and Josh, my heart is with you always. Bruce's life was an infinite blessing, his heart was tremendous, his martinis were extra cold & dry, and I'll always remember his laughter and "that look" which brought us even more laughter. May his memory be a blessing.

My heart goes out to you and your girls, Bea. It is hard to believe that he is gone. He was a gracious and wonderful person, as you are. I am so sorry for this gigantic hole in your life. May you be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem. Be kind to yourself.
