Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 7, 2014.
Reid, Bruce AVERILL PARK Bruce Reid, 84, died Tuesday February 4, 2014 at his home on Dunham Hollow Road, surrounded by his loving family. Bruce was the son of the late Everett and Edith Wood Reid and cherished husband of Carolyn Corbett Reid for 63 years. Bruce graduated from Rensselaer High School in 1947. He served in the Army from 1950-52. He worked in the Engineering Dept. of Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. for 41 years. Bruce was a communicant of 60 years and an Eucharistic Minister at St. Henry's Church in Averill Park. After retirement Bruce had many wonderful years to enjoy family, travel, gardening, and antiquing with his wife. An expert woodworker he was the restoration side of the husband - wife antique business they operated for 45 years. He enjoyed working alongside his wife on the gardens of their Dunham Hollow farmhouse that they lovingly restored and where they raised their family. His kind and loving presence will be missed by all who knew him. Bruce was the father of the late Christine Nigro and Beth Vonn and brother of the late Lorena Embler and Janet Adrian. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his son, Daniel (Brenda) Reid of Poestenkill; his daughter, Nora (Wayne) Reid-Craven of Cropseyville; his sons-in- law, Richard Nigro of Gloversville and Kevin Vonn of Red Creek, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Michael and Bryan Nigro, Trevor, Leah (Adam) Bundy and Tyler Vonn, Adam, Emily and Bruce Craven and his great-granddaughter, Brynn Bundy. Bruce was a kind and gentle man who suffered a lot of tough challenges without complaint. He will be missed, but his inspiration will live on.

I served in the Army with Bruce. He was a great guy. We met when we in the 314th.Sig.Con'st. Btn.atCampGordon,GA.
Two things that I remember about Bruce.
The first was that when he laughed hard he would slap his knee and we would say..."That's a real knee slapper aye Bruce!" The other thing was
one morning while standing Reveille our Company Commander,Capt. Jansik, made a surprise inspection. When he got in front of Bruce he said "Did you shave this morning?" Bruce said "YES SIR!"
Capt. said " Next time put a blade in your razor."
The last time I saw Bruce was in the late 1960 when I went to his house with Dick Mayer, since passed, another old Army buddy.from Stephentown.
Carolyn,May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family and Bruce, a quiet, peaceful unassuming person who had more than his share of pain and suffering. May you rest in peace, Bruce.
