Brynley Welton

Brynley Welton, 80, of Ridgefield, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 17, 2018 He was the loving husband of Mrs Patricia (Everson) Welton

Bryn was born in Newport, Wales on February 2, 1938, son of the late Christopher and Beatrice Welton He attended St Julian's School where he excelled in academics and sports An avid rugby player, he was named to the Welsh Junior National team playing the outside half position When not playing rugby, he was a fierce league competitor in squash Bryn attended Newport Technology College where he earned a degree in Chemistry, specializing in chromatography After graduating, he began work at British Nylon Spinners as an assistant chemist developing nylon for general use

Bryn and Pat Everson grew up as neighbors in Newport They started dating in 1954 and were married in 1961They were blessed with two sons, Guy and Craig

Bryn joined Perkin-Elmer in 1965 and the family moved from Newport, Wales to Hazelmere, England He quickly established himself as a prominent expert in the field of gas chromatography; publishing papers and delivering lectures He was sent across the globe, supporting customers who needed assistance with Perkin-Elmer instruments Bryn was a pioneer as China opened its doors to global commerce and also worked in Russia as they built refineries utilizing Perkin-Elmer equipment

In 1977, Bryn was offered a position in the United States as an Applications Manager for a line of new Perkin-Elmer instruments He bravely moved his young family to a new country where they settled in Ridgefield Bryn and Pat have proudly called Ridgefield home ever since

Bryn was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in the mid 1970s The disease slowed his physical abilities which curtailed international work but his mind remained razor sharp, continuing as an exemplary manager until his retirement in 2000

His wife, Pat, retired the same year and the two enjoyed years of Disney World family trips along with cruises to Bermuda, the Bahamas, Aruba and Alaska Bryn enjoyed the benefits of Ridgefield's Founders Hall as he attended classes and lectures about computers, photography and investing

He was an active member of the Men's Club of Ridgefield, where he established a Digital Photography group and taught classes on Photoshop

Bryn was a huge supporter of the Ridgefield Chorale where Pat has been a longtime member He also loved to watch the English Premier Soccer League on television each weekend as well as any tennis matches he could find

Bryn found great enjoyment watching his children and grandchildren grow and participate in sports and music He was always supportive and a popular member of the sidelines or audience

Bryn is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia, and their two sons: Guy and his wife, Kim and Craig and his wife, Jennifer In addition, he is survived by three grandchildren: Tyler, Courtney and Nicholas

Memorial services will be held on January 3, 2019 at 10:30 AM at the First Congregational Church, 103 Main Street, Ridgefield Interment will be private; there will be no calling hours

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, wwwnationalmssocietyorg

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the kind nurses and aides of the Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association and Regional Hospice
