A memorial for Bud Wellington Barrett, 50, of Troup, TX will be held on June 20, 2025, at 1:00 at Burks Walker Tippit funeral home with Danny Bristow officiating.

Bud passed away suddenly June 11, 2025 at his home in Troup, TX.

Bud was born November 29, 1974 in Tyler TX to David R. and Dorothy ("Dottie") J. Barrett

He was a 1993 Whitehouse high school graduate, 1996 graduate of Kilgore College Fire Academy and a 2005 LeTourneau University graduate, receiving a BBA in business administration

Bud began his career as a firefighter for the Tyler Fire Department January 4, 1996 at age 21, received his 25 year pen in 2021, and retired after 29 years at age 50 December 20, 2024.

He was a fire fighter then promoted to fire engineer, where he drove the fire truck and operated it at fire scenes. He received the Firefighter Master certification from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection. He was also a certified Emergency Care Attendant,

He was a fire investigator for the TFD for a couple years and was valedictorian of his 2015 Tyler Junior College Law Enforcement Academy class as well as "Top Gun" of his class as he prepared to be an investigator.

He was a certified scuba diver, commissioned security officer, certified glock firearm repairman, an overall gun enthusiast and an avid marksman going to the shooting range twice a week sharpening his already keen skills since retiring. He was an all-around "guys guy" and a great son, brother and friend.

He loved traveling and exploring, especially to places like S. Korea, Thailand, Medellin Columbia, Panama, Peru, Ecuador, Chili and other S. American countries. In his younger days he was a frequent traveler to Cozumel where he enjoyed snorkeling and scuba diving.

Bud was preceded in death by his loving mother, Dottie Barrett, grandmother Fannie M. Potter, grandmother Juanita M. Thomas uncle Ronald T. Barrett and uncle Tony M Thomas.

Bud is survived by: his father David R. Barrett, sister Suni M. Davis and her husband Dustin J. Davis, stepmother Carolyn Barrett, stepsister Stephanie Griffin and stepbrother Kevin Ramsey and cousins Michael Thomas and Kelli Holdgraf.
