Burton Barbee Hamersly

Burton B. "Bob" Hamersly, born Oct. 14, 1938, in Farmville, VA, died at age 86 on July 24 at his home in Coral Gables, FL.

Bob graduated from Virginia Tech and worked for the DuPont company for several decades, mostly in Wilmington, DE, before pivoting to financial planning in the 1990s with Judy Lau & Associates. That second career was extremely successful and rewarding, but he eventually retired, mostly to care for his beloved wife Bonnie, who died at age 70 in Miami Beach in January 2009.

Bob was a standout athlete, excelling in baseball and football in high school before taking up golf, which became a lifelong hobby, enjoyed with his family and friends. His career highlight came during a pro-am tournament in 1989 in which he hit a hole-in-one to win a Ford Taurus.

Bob was well-known for his friendliness, wisdom and love for telling stories about his life, which will be dearly missed. He is survived by his two sons, Kendall and Michael Hamersly; son-in-law Michael Agrifolio; daughter-in-law Cristina Lopez-Hamersly; sister Martha Sue Harwood and her family from Farmville and Raleigh, NC; granddaughters Zoe, Olivia and Sanibelle Hamersly; and nephews Vince, Rick and Luke Osborn.
