She was born Clara Alice Seaman on December 13, 1924 in Coles County, Illinois, the daughter of the late Charles Ross and Opal Leota (Spies) Seaman. She married Donald L. Shawver on December 25, 1945 at the home of her parents north of Charleston. They were married just shy of 54 years before Donald’s death on December 18, 1999. She leaves a son, Charles Shawver of Ashland, Missouri; four grandchildren, Heather, Phillip, Katy and Sarah; and a great-grandson, Jaxyn. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Ronald Lee Shawver and Paul Henry Shawver, a daughter-in-law, Laurie Shawver; two brothers, Billy Max and George Henry Seaman; and a sister, Dorothy Huddlestun.
Alice was a graduate of Charleston High School and furthered her education by attending Eastern Illinois University and the University of Missouri. She was a real estate broker and co-owner of Re-Max Realty when living in Columbia, Missouri. Her church membership remains with the First Baptist Church in Columbia and she was a member of P.E.O. Chapter CF.
The family farm located south of Charleston remained special to Alice and she never lost her love for farming or the farm life. She loved animals and enjoyed the deer that would frequent her back yard, the chipmunks which provided great entertainment, and the beauty of the many birds and other wildlife that she loved to watch. Alice had been a snowbird for many years and truly enjoyed wintering in Cape Coral, Florida and renewing friendships. Her love for harp music sparked her desire to learn to play the harp which was quite an accomplishment as she was in her late 80’s.
Alice was always a lady and a woman who possessed class and was known to most assuredly be fashionably dressed. She will be greatly missed by the family she dearly loved and her wealth of friends.

Aunt Alice was special to me as she treated me special as a very little girl when my family visited when I was 4 or 5. With her sons and my brothers all doing lots, she still had something special for me. And when you say she was a lady, you said it right. My thoughts are with the family.

I was Secretary at Rutter-Ruether Realtors from 1968-73. Alice was such a lovely lady and we spent many fun times together. She literally sparkled when she came into a room. She was so proud of her husband and sons. She was being honored at University of Missouri School of Business. I was her invited guest at the event. She introduced me to my future brother-in-law and his wife. They introduced me to his brother on a blind date when he came to town. Alice got such a kick out of that and had a bridal shower for me at her home. I was just in my hometown of Ashland but now reside in College Station, Texas. My husband was a professor at Texas A & M School of Veterinary Medicine. He passed in 2017. My deepest sympathy to your family. May many happy memories sustain you. Glenda Ellis Scanlan
