Surrounded by her loving family, Cailin Capri Cannella was granted her angel wings on September 18, 2017 after a year-long battle with Osteosarcoma. She was diagnosed on her 13th birthday and had just celebrated her 14th birthday on September 9, 2017. A strong and brave warrior, she fought until the end. Her radiant smile and warm heart reminds us to live our lives as if each day is a blessing.
A talented swimmer, Cailin swam for the Academy Aquatic Club and on the varsity team at the Academy of the Holy Names. Her accomplishments include being one of the top swimmers in the state of Florida as well as a medalist at the Florida Age Group Championships which earned her a spot on the Zone All-Stars Florida team. Cailin loved her swim community; a second family that supported her throughout her battle with cancer.
Cailin also loved the color pink. She loved to dance and to shop for clothes. She loved to write her mom inspirational messages before she went off to work in the morning. She loved making her dad sing Barney songs to her and making sure her little sister was keeping in line. She will be missed every day but she will live in our hearts forever.
Cailin is survived by her loving mother and father, Lisa and Norman Cannella; her adoring sister, Ashlin Cannella; paternal grandparents Norman Cannella, Sr. and Suellen Cannella; maternal grandparents Jerry Bustin and Betty Kendrick; aunts and uncles Roger and Alexa Quesnel, Matt and Coco Grandy, Todd and Tina Sorey, and John and Lori Touliatos; eleven cousins; her devoted swim coach William Shaffer; and many, many friends.
Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church at 412 Zack Street Tampa, FL 33602 on Thursday, September 21, 2017. The funeral is at 3:00 p.m. and the family will greet guests in a reception at the church immediately following the service. A private burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Because of Daniel foundation. 100% of the proceeds donated will go directly to fund Osteosarcoma research so that one day, children like Cailin will have a chance to survive this terrible disease. Visit www.becauseofdaniel.org for more information. The donation page is https://becauseofdaniel.org/donate/ or donations can be sent by mail to:
