Cain Howard Memoriam

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 31, 2011.
CAIN, HOWARD
In loving memory of HOWIE, who passed away on August 31, 2004.
It has been 7 years since we lost a wonderful husband, father, boss, and role model.
Howard was a loving husband to his wife Temple. Together they raised three children and numerous pets. They enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and especially dancing (he was well known for "cutting the rug"). Their marriage was in it's 44th year at the time of his passing. Mom misses him dearly every day.
Dad was an inspiration to his three children. His dedication to us was evident over and over again through his efforts to ensure we always had the best of everything in life. We have numerous stories of Dad being there for us as kids, making sure we never missed a sports game or filling in as coach if necessary, or driving us all over the province to tournaments. We all miss the comfort of knowing his love, his knowledge, and his uncanny ability to solve our problems were just a call away.
Howie, also known as the Howiemeister to those of us who had the privelege to work for or with him through his company of 30 years (Cain Construction), taught us many varied skills which will stay with us for the rest of our lives. To all of his employees and customers, Howie was a relentlessly hard worker, satisfied with only top quality workmanship, never watching the clock, just working until the job was done. The great thing about working for Dad, or hiring him to work for you, was that you became his friend quickly, and forever. If you had an emergency at any time of the day or night you knew Dad would be there for you without hesitation.
The best of Dad's attributes was his ability to be a positive role model. He led by example - hard, honest work, no shortcuts. Sacrifice for your family and friends, do what's expected and more.
Heroic attributes for sure.
Dad was a skilled perfectionist in his work, a loving husband and father, a caring friend, and he had real dedication to everyone he worked with and worked for.
Our world is all the poorer since his passing. We miss his smile, his various hats, his whistling, his "Howie Socks", and his famous cursing. We will especially miss his love for life and his pride in creating things using his hands, his sharp mind, and his wonderful command of his construction tools.
Dad was a rock, a man's man, a pillar to lean on, and a joy to be near. His legacy lives on in the memories of the people who knew him, as well as the many creations he built.
Time does not heal all wounds, there will always be a hole in that part of our hearts that Howie filled.
Dad, however, would only want us to celebrate the years he was alive and to cherish our memories of his life with us.
In this light, we raise a glass today in celebration of the life lived by HOWARD ALVIN CAIN, THE MAN, THE LEGEND.
Loved and missed by his wife Temple, daughter Martina, sons Stephen and Andrew.
