Obituary

Cal Marvin. Warroad Dateline. The shores of Lake of the Woods and the community of Warroad were changed forever on April 29, 1924, when Calvin Coolidge Marvin was born to George and Almina Marvin. Cal graduated from Warroad High School in 1942 and then briefly attended Carleton College. He then entered the U.S. Marine Corps in February of 1943. After being discharged, Cal enrolled at UND for 3 seasons and his historic life started taking shape as Mr. Hockey, when he formed the Warroad Lakers Amateur Hockey Team. At the same time, he approached UND and brought NCAA Division I hockey to Grand Forks. His commitment to hockey was second to none as he ran the Lakers for fifty illustrious years. He also spent countless volunteer hours coaching, advising, and leading hockey in the community of Warroad and throughout the U.S. As dedicated as Cal was to hockey, he also committed himself to running several business ventures and promoted the community of Warroad his entire life. His famous quote, "There's more to life than hockey,' is certainly true of his loving family. Beth and Cal were married for 55 years before Cal passed away September 5, 2004. The Marvin family who will carry on include: wife, Eleanor "Beth' (Beimer) Marvin; brothers, William "Bill', Randolph "Tut', and Jack Marvin; sister, Mary "Mini' Marvin; Children: *Karen (Marvin) Hontvet with husband, Conrad and children, Jennifer (Hontvet) Slukynsky with husband, Tim; Chris Hontvet, Chad Hontvet *Mike Marvin, with wife, Connie and children, Gisele and Aaron Marvin *Liz (Marvin) Mueller with husband, Jeff and children, Brett, Scott and Brock *Becky (Marvin) Hontvet husband, Carter and children Carmen, Coreen (Hontvet) Linquist husband Eric, Bryan and Bethany *Nancy (Marvin) Radenmacher with husband Rob and son, Derek *Jeanne (Marvin) Dilly with husband, Harvey and daughter Arriana *John Marvin with wife Lori and children Lee, Alisha, Brittany and Briana *Janet Marvin *Robin Marvin *David Marvin with wife Kallie and children Layla, Lisa and Max *Randi (Marvin) Oftedahl with husband, Craig and children, Eleanor, Teresa, Rachel and Carlton. CAL LEFT THIS WORLD A BETTER PLACE, HE WILL BE MISSED BY ALL WHO KNEW HIM. HE WAS A GREAT MAN.

I had the opportunity to work with Cal from 1972 to 1975 and found him to be a warm and sincere person who really cared about his community and the "individuals" in it. I am sure he was a loving Father and Husband; I enjoyed the short time I spent with him and will remember him always.
