GREENFIELD — Camille Lucienne (Chaput) Goodwin of Greenfield, passed away peacefully and with grace on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility in Greenfield.
Camille was born in Haverhill on Dec. 21, 1920, to Dr. Lucien and Eva (Dupre) Chaput. She was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1936. She continued her education at Manhattenville College, New York City. After college, she pursued a modeling career. She modeled in New York City and in Boston. She married George M. Goodwin on Sept. 21, 1941, prior to him entering the Army.
Camille remained at home in Georgetown to raise her two children. However, she was never idle, and volunteered for many church and community organizations. She and her family also summered at their home in North Hampton, N.H., which became their permanent home after her husband's retirement.
Throughout her life, Camille was committed to the churches she attended in Haverhill and Portsmouth, N.H. She served on the Altar Guild, taught Bible Study, and was a Lay Minister and Reader. She was a member of the Florence Crittenton League, and the Adelynrood Episcopal Conference Center, which is operated by The Society of the Companions of the Holy Cross. She found great friendship, comfort, and joy in church life.
Camille was a master gardener, blue-ribbon floral designer, lecturer, and judge, who lectured throughout the Eastern Seaboard and Florida. She was recognized in the gardening and flower arranging community as a highly creative and talented designer, with a flair for unique ideas and flamboyant designs. Her own personal garden in North Hampton, where she grew prize-winning Dahlias, was well known for its beauty and artistic flair. Camille had a passion for life and for academics, and she studied the philosophy of Carl Gustav Jung throughout her life. Jung's emphasis on the importance of balance and harmony influenced many of her creative designs.
Camille was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George. She leaves behind a son, Dr. Christopher M. Goodwin and his wife Cherry of Greenfield; and a daughter, Eve L. Goodwin of Georgetown; three grandchildren, Allyson L. Goodwin and her husband Mark A. Short of Northfield, David Iuele of Colorado, Brian Iuele of La Paz, Mexico; six great-grandchildren, Jordan and Haley Short of Northfield, David and John Iuele of Glenwood, Colo., Angelina Iuele of Colorado, and Georgianna Iuele of La Paz, Mexico.

I certainly remember the Goodwins, both George and Camille. I remember Camille's extraordinary talent for taking simple flora and turning it into exceptional flower arrangements that we all appreciated. Her charm and talent, her graciousness and dedication stands out in the pages of history of Christ Church, Portsmouth, NH. May God's grace be upon her and her family.
