October 11, 1971 - December 7, 2021
Modesto, California - Cammy Sue Gillum, 50, of Modesto, California, died unexpectedly at her home in Oklahoma on December 7, 2021. Cammy was born on October 11, 1971 in Modesto, to parents David and Sharon Gillum. She was the second-born among her siblings, which include her older brother Johnny, younger brother David, and younger sister Jennifer. Cammy grew up in the Salida and Modesto areas, where she attended Salida Elementary and Middle School, and Modesto High School. She graduated Modesto High in 1989. She began a career in the medical field shortly thereafter, later becoming an inspector for the US Department of Agriculture; however, her true talent and passion was in creative writing. She recently endeavored to obtain a degree in creative writing at Oklahoma State University and was writing creative content for an organization at the time of her death. Cammy became a mother for the first time in 1996, with the birth of her first son, Lawrence (Larry) Lee Williams. Younger sons, Roman Michael Wren and Mateo David Wren, were born in 2007 and 2008, respectively. Her children meant the world to her. Cammy was very close to her siblings and family, and her spirit was cherished by many. She loved to laugh and to make others laugh, she loved music, writing and reading, and most of all loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her three boys. Cammy is survived by her sons, Larry, Roman, and Mateo, her parents David and Sharon Gillum of Modesto, her brother Johnny and his wife Jennifer Alves of Modesto, her brother David and his wife Audrie Gillum of Santa Clarita, CA, her sister Jennifer Gillum Flora of Modesto, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Cammy will be celebrated by her family and friends in a private gathering on December 29, 2021. She was loved deeply and will be remembered always by the many who loved her.

Tammy was a student in my American Lit class at Modesto High in 1988. I taught thousands of students in my career, yet I recognized her name instantly when I read her obituary today. She was a memorable student indeed. I am truly sorry for the loss her family feels.
