Candace "Candy" Sexton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 16, 2021.

Candace “Candy” Lynn Sexton beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, of Wellston, Michiganm passed away on Tuesday May 11, 2021, at Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital in Manistee, Michigan.

Candy was born on March 8, 1958, in Neubrucke, Germany, to Bernard and Anne (Grant) Hopkins. She was one of four children and their only daughter.

The family moved to Copperas Cove, Texas, in 1971. Candy graduated from Copperas Cove High School in 1976. She met and fell in love with Martin Sexton in 1976 while he was stationed in the Army at Fort Hood. They were married on January 19, 1977, in Wellston, Michigan, and remained together for the next 44 years. They moved between Texas and Michigan before finally settling in Wellston in 1980 where they raised their three sons. Candy graduated from West Shore Community College and began a career as an LPN. She spent the majority of her career as the office manager of Wellston Medical Center. She retired from that position and spent the rest of her days enjoying time with her family.

Candy loved her family, and she loved to help others. She enjoyed spending time with Martin at Brethren High School where she often ran the admission gate, concession stand, and helped feed the teams before games. She also coached the JV Cheerleading team. Candy loved to go to watch the different teams play at the school whether one of her boys were playing or not. When she wasn’t at the school, Candy enjoyed shopping, going to the casino, going on trips with her friends, attending church, and spending time with her six grandchildren. She loved her grandbabies more than anything and spoke of them often to everyone she knew.

Candy was preceded in death by: her father and mother; her brothers, Ken and Tim; and her son, Jason.

She is survived by: her husband, Martin; sons, Mark (Charone) and Alex (Katie); brother, Ross; grandchildren, Kelsey, Elliana, Olivia, Jaclyn, Evan, and Avery; as well as her mother-in-law, many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

Memorial services will be conducted at 4:00 PM, Sunday, May 16, 2021 at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until the time of services at the funeral home.

We spent so much time together in nursing school and I took care of her when she got sick. She was my go to person at Wellston Clinic. I will miss her.

I was so very sorry to hear of Candy's passing. It has been many years since we have seen each other but I think of her often....usually while telling someone one of my GREAT memories of Candy from when we worked together at Oak Village/Grand Oaks Nursing Center in Baldwin. She always lit up the room.

Years and years ago I met Candy when she worked for Dr Tracy. She had become more than just a person working in the office. I remember the very devastating time in her life when she lost her son, sitting in support at the courthouse as she was so grieved.
She brought so much light in my life for the years I had been around her. Although I have not seen or thought of her in MANY years, as I read of her passing I just had to say what a great person I knew her to be.
She is now with her son, her faith has become sight..... may we all remember how our everyday actions can leave a lasting impression either positive or negative..... blessings!

I Loved helping Candy with getting the Football Bobcats fed and hearing her laugh and stories. She was the first person to tell me my son Ryan was on the way little did she know she would soon be finding out about Alex too. She is going to be greatly missed even if its been awhile since we talked, there was always a chance we would run into each other. A Beautiful woman inside and out.
