Carl Whitworth Obituary

Published by The World from Feb. 28 to Mar. 1, 2009.

Nov. 12, 1940 - Feb. 19, 2009

Arrangements will be held at a later date for Carl Dale Whitworth, 68, of Klamath, Calif.

Carl was born Nov. 12, 1940, in Sallisaw, Okla. He died Feb. 19, 2009, due to a heart attack causing him to have a car accident on Feb. 18.

Carl enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1958 and served until 1962, when he then moved to Glide and worked at Champion/IP in Roseburg for about 15 years. He married Carol Marie in 1978 in Reno, Nev., and they were married for 26 years before her death in 2004.

Carl had worked in many cities such as Roseburg, Gold Beach and Coos Bay. He also had worked in Indonesia for about eight years. Carl and Carol managed and owned the Umpqua Store for a brief time and then they finally settled in Roseburg. After his wife died, Carl moved back to the Oregon coast and then to Klamath, Calif.

Carl was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved to go camping and take drives up in the mountains to look for deer. He loved to read many books and was an excellent knife maker. His family would like to think he enjoyed moving mostly.

Carl loved his family and is survived by his children, Darlene Missin of Coquille, Valerie Cahill of North Bend, Casey Lay of Roseburg and Glenna Patnode of Coos Bay; grandchildren, Tina Woodworth, Andrea Herrera, Angelina Arie, Kaylena Missin, Jameal Lay, Stevie Missin, Jacqueline Lay, Jimmy Lay, Trevor Missin, Drew Lay and Mercedyz Patnode; great-grandchildren, Tucker Lowry, Kennedy Woodworth, Ethan Albritton, Morgan Woodworth, Lillian McGuire and newborn Trinity Lay; brother, Anthony Whitworth and wife, Jolly of Ukiah, Calif.; sisters and their spouses, Betty and Gary Goodwin of Roseburg, Reba and Tom Devlin of Missoula, Mont., and Brenda and Dale Dahlen of North Bend; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Whitworth; father, Jack Whitworth; and mother, Elsie Whitworth.

The family requests contributions to assist with the arrangements to the Whitworth Memorial Fund, 1035 S. Fourth St., Coos Bay, OR 97420.
