Carl F. Wideman Jr.

Carl was born in San Antonio August 2, 1933 and left us Jan.1, 2019 to join his beloved late wife of 50 years, Joy Grote Wideman, in the Mansion of his Heavenly Father. He lived in Houston for several years and Austin as well, but San Antonio was always home. He has been a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for most of his adult life, as was his father before him. After a career in sales that spanned many years, he then opened his own business, All-Pro Landscape Maintenance, and operated it successfully with his wife until he retired in 2001. He subsequently served as a volunteer at the University Hospital for several years. Carl was regarded by all who knew him well as, first and foremost, a devoted family man who always helped his late parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wideman Sr., and his children and grandchildren any way he could. If ever they needed something, he was almost always there for them.

He had a nearly life-long love of the thrills of participating in motor sports of many kinds from drag racing in his high school years, to go kart racing, shared with his son, to stock car racing, and drag boat racing, finishing off as an avid fan of NASCAR racing.

He is survived by his brother, Dr. Donald Wideman Sr., his children, Charles and Marilou Mathews, Sr., Carl F. and Fredlyn Wideman, and Joella Wideman, as well as five grandchildren, Robert Edgar Pate, James Andrew Pate, Charles Martin Mathews, Jr., Michael E. and Briana Coulter II, Reed and Elizabeth Dawnn Mainz, 11 great grandchildren, nephews Donald and Casey Wideman Jr and Dr. Dean and Brenda Wideman, and brother in law James C. Grote and three great nieces.


Memorial service is with Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Rd. on Friday, January 11, at 1:00 PM. Reception will follow after the services.


Internment service is Saturday, January 12 at The Grote Family Cemetery, within Mission Park North Cemetery, on Lookout Rd., just north of Loop 1604at 10:30 AM.
