Carlos Padial Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 6 to Jan. 14, 2021.
Carlos M. Padial Sr., born on November 28, 1935 was called to Heaven this December 30th, 2020. He was 85 years old. Carlos passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends. Carlos attended De La Salle High School in Cuba where he excelled in academics and played baseball. He graduated in Cuba from the University De Villanueva in Chemical Engineering and then got a full scholarship to Colorado School of Mines graduating with a Masters in Metallurgy. Carlos planned on returning to Cuba after completing his education to help run the family pharmaceutical business, but things quickly changed when he was forced with his wife and daughter leave Cuba due to the Revolution of 1959. Carlos arrived in Baton Rouge, LA in 1961. He and his family were parishioners of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Carlos had a huge heart and never missed an opportunity to help others. Carlos took a lot of pride in mentoring others and giving back. He enjoyed life to the fullest and loved being with family and friends. He enjoyed tracking his ancestry as well as traveling the world over but most of all visiting Chite, Spain where the first Padial was born in 1539. Carlos ended up purchasing a place in Chite for all of the family to be able to visit and learn more about his Spanish heritage. Carlos also loved his Cuban heritage and made sure to stay connected with all the family in Cuba and beyond. He was also very interested in visiting Cuba again and never expected that it would be possible. When he finally returned to Cuba, he was able to be reacquainted with family and friends giving him great satisfaction. He always shared his passion for family and told everyone the hardest thing about being forced out of Cuba was the separation of family. He felt without a solid education he would have had a much harder time, because the education was the only thing that could not be taken away. Carlos loved his career as an Engineer working for Kaiser Aluminum in Baton Rouge and Jamaica and then for Martin Marietta in St. Croix. Once he returned to Baton Rouge and retired from his Engineering Career, Carlos worked as a Consultant and worked in the real estate business and was responsible for starting the G.S.R.I. Crime Committee which was instrumental in getting all the owners to work in a collective manner to improve the area, coordinating efforts between the Sheriff's Dept and City Police to work together and share their resources. Carlos is preceded in death by his father Reinaldo and step mother Maria Lueisa Padial, his mother Elba Ramirez Corria and step father Dr. Mario Machado, his first wife Marietta Padial, his brothers Mario Machado and his wife Mildred, his brother Micky Padial; his son Cliff Padial. He is survived by his ex-wife Claire Padial; his brother Reinaldo and wife Norita Ferro Padial; his children Marietta Murphy and husband Gerry, Carlos Padial Jr, Martin A. Padial Sr and his wife Andree, Andre Padial and his wife Alicia LoCicero; Grandchildren Carlos Padial III, Clara Padial Guilliot, Nicholas Goins, Ridge Womac, Victoria Padial, Daniel Padial, Michael Padial, Cristina Murphy Ewing, Maria Murphy Darnel, Alicia Murphy, Natalie Padial Lewis, Hannah Marie Padial, Martin Padial Jr; Great grandchildren, Jager, Wesson, Layne, Lyla, Lawson, Carter, Lucas. Funeral Mass for Carlos Padial Sr. will be held at St. Jude Church, 101 Gardere Lane, Baton Rouge LA 70810 on Thursday 1/14/21 starting with visitation at 9:30 a.m. and a Funeral Mass to begin at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation and Funeral Mass. Carlos employed me at Kaiser Aluminum on 21 February, 1977. I enjoyed reporting to Carlos. He was a stern but fair man. He had a personality I'll never forget. He was always ready to smile. After he left Kaiser, we lost touch but I'll always be very thankful to Carlos for taking a chance by employing me. I'm still employed at the plant in Gramercy. Thank you Carlos. You made a difference in my life.
