Carman ROBINSON Obituary

Published by North Shore News from Oct. 3 to Oct. 5, 2014.
ROBINSON - Carman Orval May 31, 1934 - September 15, 2014 Born in Alonsa, Manitoba, Carman moved to Gibsons with his family in 1939. He is survived by his partner of 50 years, Les Robinson; his brother Godfrey Robinson; sisters-in-law Arlene Baird and Marilyn Giesbrecht; several nieces and nephews: Debbie English (David), John Robinson, Winston Robinson (Heather), Carrie Robinson (Ron), Nancy Timmins, Leah Robinson (Dan), and Michelle Reardon (Ron); great nieces and nephew: Elissa and Audrey English, Christian and Chelsea Robinson, Kiera and Emma Timmins, Olivia Reardon. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Charles and Eva-Mae Robinson, and brothers Chuck, John and Winston; and great niece, Evelyn May Carman Reardon. After graduating from Elphinstone High School, Carman took a job with Bank of Montreal in Gibsons. In his early twenties, he left Gibsons to work in Vancouver for CP Airlines as a ticket agent and then in the office, which led to his great love of travelling. Carman was very involved with Scouts Canada both in Gibsons and Marpole (he earned the highest designation as Queen Scout). He also modelled for newspaper and catalogue ads for Woodward's and Eaton's Department stores and took acting roles in Little Theatre in Vancouver. At that time, he furthered his education at night school, taking computer courses at UBC and then started working at the federal government responsible for the financial transactions between the federal and provincial governments. Unfortunately Carman developed a brain tumour in his early forties which forced him to take early retirement. Despite a debilitating brain operation, after several difficult years he made an amazing recovery and lived a normal life contributing to Les's building supplies business and volunteering at his church. Les and Carman lived in West Vancouver and enjoyed their "island" home at Secret Cove. Over the years they were able to travel to many places in the world. They especially loved to cruise. Carman was a very fine man with many good qualities. He was loyal and a loving son and brother; he was sensitive and kind; a strong believer in God; he was a true friend to many, visiting several shut-ins over the years; he was generous and gave much of his time working in his church and the community; he believed in helping his fellow man. He will be missed. A celebration of life will be conducted at St. Christopher's Anglican Church at 1068 Inglewood Ave., West Vancouver on Saturday, October 11th at 2:00pm.
