Carmelo Piazza, a longtime resident of New York, died on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at the age of 98, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on
August 10, 1925, in Villa San Giovanni, Reggio Calabria, Italy. He immigrated to the United States in August 1962. Carmelo was a stoic, hard-working, and soft-spoken man who tirelessly dedicated himself to his family and his faith. He took great pride in his craft and was a fierce fan of the Serie A soccer team, Inter-Milan.

Carmelo is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Caterina Piazza (nee Santoro), daughters Domenica Lanuto (Alfio) and Graziella Everett (Steven), and son Vincent Piazza (Sabrina). He was the esteemed grandfather of nine grandchildren, Gabriella Maria Pace, Alessandro Gaetano Lanuto, Adriana Caterina Pozielli, Davide Antonio Carmelo Lanuto, Marco Domenico Lanuto, William Ray Everett II, Luca Matteo Piazza, Leo Andrea Piazza, Dante Gabriele Piazza, their families and five great-grandchildren. Carmelo was the loving brother to siblings Caterina Piazza, Mariella Piazza (Giovannino), and Domenico Piazza (Giggia). He is survived by sisters-in-law Maria Piazza and Tonia Piazza. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law Giovanni Santoro, Franco Santoro, Natale Santoro and their wives, sisters-in-law Graziella, Lina, and Claudia. He was a favored uncle to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was an esteemed friend to many and a generous neighbor.

Carmelo was predeceased by his parents Vincenzo Piazza and Domenica Caminiti, brothers Giovanni Piazza, Luigi Piazza and wife Joanne Piazza, Giuseppe Piazza, brother-in-law Giuseppe Cassone, and nephew Gino Piazza.

Carmelo worshipped at Our Lady of Pompeii Church (OLPC) on 25 Carmine Street, New York, NY. A funeral mass will be held at OLPC on Wednesday, November 22, at 10:30am. Contributions in Carmelo's memory can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital through their website at www.stjude.org.

Carmelo Piazza leaves a great void in the lives of many and will be deeply missed by his family. His legacy of hard work, dedication, and love will be cherished forever. May he rest peacefully in the warm embrace of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
