Carmen Carroll Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 22 to May 23, 2023.
We are sad to formally announce the death of our beloved, Carmen, on Monday, May 08, 2023 due to cardiac complications.

Carmen filled so many roles to all of us, but the most important role to her was being a mother to Chloe. Carmen was a loving, dedicated, and supportive mother to Chloe.

Carmen was preceded in death by her mother, Beverly Houston. She is survived by her daughter, Chloe Carroll and her partner, Aaron Collins; brother, Lynn and his wife, Vanessa Lambert. Carmen is Aunt to Brent Lambert, his wife Marya and their children Holden and Sophia; Kurrissa Lambert and her children Chandler, Caleb, Corry, and Christopher; LaShonda Tapley and her children Luna and Caspian. Carmen's youngest nephew is Austin Lambert.

Carmen also leaves behind her uncles: Michael Houston and his wife Gail; Marc Houston and his wife Kim; and her Aunt Lisa Houston. Carmen has numerous cousins and many close family members that all mourn her passing.

Carmen maintained deep friendships with her Concord High School classmates, her ASU alumni, and her colleagues at WCHHS, and the others she met on her path. These friendships were part of Carmen's family and deep and dear to her.

Carmen exemplified "Team Spirit" at Concord High School and was part of the class of 1986. She earned an athletic scholarship to Appalachian State University and could not have been a more devoted Mountaineer. Her dearest Alumni friends will attest to "CC's" ASU loyalty representation. At Appalachian State University, Carmen was class of 1990 and earned a BS in Sociology/Corrections.

Carmen devoted her life to social work and to the service of others in so many ways through her career. She was an advocate and dedicated to seeing that the needs of her clients were met. Carmen's entire career was with Wake County Government, and she loved her work but really built special relationships with her colleagues. They were close and enjoyed the accomplishments of their professional relationships. Carmen retired from Wake County Health and Human Services in 2018. She also worked with York Technical College in Test Proctoring through 2020. Carmen volunteered on so many projects and spent her free time working with Grandma's Estate Services in Raleigh. She was very passionate about the Non-Profit organization, Dress For Success Triangle NC.

Carmen was so talented with sewing, crafting and DIY projects.

Carmen's love and devotion to her very best fur baby, Knuddel is second to none! Knuddel has been adopted by a dear friend and is receiving the best of care.

We will be having a Celebration of Life for Carmen. It will be held at a later date. A formal announcement will be made and communicated in enough time for everyone to be able to attend.

Carmen will be missed, and we should rejoice that we had the blessing of her light and her love.

Continue to keep each of us in your prayers for peace and comfort and to bless others as we have been blessed.

I remember her earning many track and field awards and playing other hight school sports as well and doing her best to complete a her highest level of competition as well. She was a very nice person and spoke to mostly everyone in our school she was caring and giving as well, and had a sincere of humor as well.

She would visit our neighbor John which now has knuddle. We enjoy seeing knuddle and it is very different not seeing Carmen. She was very well liked and very friendly person. I am glad I had the honor of meeting her. RIP our friend

Carmen's friendship and giving, caring personality will be missed by all of us who were fortunate enough to have her as a part of our lives. I still can't really believe she's gone--but I also know that the impact she had on so many lives (clients, customers, family, friends) lives on as does the laughter and love she brought to us all. We are all of us alive as long as we live on in the memories of our loved ones...in that way Carmen will never be truly gone.

Carmen was a dear friend and Co-Worker at WCHHS. Even after her retirement in 2018, we continued to chat on social media. I enjoyed seeing Carmen post about her travels and express her love for her daughter, Chloe and her fur baby Knuddle. Definitely will miss talking/sharing with my dear friend. We last messaged on May 4th, just days prior to her passing and she was encouraging me, which was so much "Carmen" . Rest in heaven.

I was in the CHS class of 1986. I knew Carmen however we were not close- different classes etc.. still friends because she was friends with everyone she met!
I was so shy. She was NOT . I wanted to be more like her and be free to be myself. In high school I couldn´t, however I took that feeling to UNCC and went with it. I´ve never forgotten her even though I left Concord and never moved back. My favorite memory is a a dance after a football game- I was in the band.. I saw her dancing like no one was watching before I even heard that statement. She was freely herself.

Saints of God, come to her aid!
Come to meet her, angels of the Lord!
Receive her soul and present her to God the Most High.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her and may the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
